Hello,
I’ve just been told I’m pre diabetic and need to overhaul my diet. I am missing sweet things and need some inspiration of what I can have I instead. Can I have sugar free jelly and sugar free / no added sugar angel delight?
Any other suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Sugar free jelly is fine, not sure about the angel delight but from the very distant past I think a portion (which is tiny) of sugar free angel delight is about 8g carbs, try a couple of squares of above 70% chocolate, a bit of double cream with a few berries.

I’ve never had a sweet tooth so can’t relate too much to wanting sweet stuff but there is a lot of places on the internet that now sell keto or low carb cakes and sweet treats though they are expensive

If you like baking or are willing to learn there are any amount of low carb alternative recipes on the internet. Just Google low carb or keto “whatever” (e.g. cheesecake) and you’ll get loads of recipes to choose from

Hello, and welcome @emb2681

Sweet stuff isn’t my thing, but I am sure some of our members, @Rachox , and @DJC3 , (there are others, too, sorry I can’t remember all) who have found a way to indulge in low carb sweet treats. I think cakes from an online supplier DGF? Also, some protein bars? Hopefully, now I have tagged them they will pop in with details.

I found a small piece of cheese could cut my daytime cravings, but swapped my milk chocolate habit to 85%, and 90% for cooking. There are small great sites for keto cakes - it takes a while to learn to cook with coconut flour but ground almonds are easier.
Try this one, her recipes work although some require too many extra ingredients.

When taking desserts for buffets I make a chocolate mousse with 90% choc, double cream, egg yolk, vanilla and some zero carb sweetener. served with a few fresh raspberries.

Thanks for the tag @Pipp

@emb2681 I used to make a lot of my own low carb cakes and puddings, now I’ve become lazy and I usually buy cakes and cookies from deliciouslyguiltfree.com It’s a small family firm based in Cambridge. It’s not cheap, but then low carb baking ingredients aren’t cheap. They make a good variety of treats, I always have some in the freezer ( and in fact I think the cookies are actually better eaten straight from the freezer)
I’ve tried some of the low carb/protein bars, such as Grenade Carb killa and PhD but I’ve found they spike my blood sugars hugely so please make sure you test for yourself if you try any of these.

If you fancy something more puddingy than sugar free jelly , treat yourself to berries and cream. If you buy frozen berries they are often cheaper than fresh. Mix and mash into double cream while they are still frozen and you’ll end up with a sort of ice cream as the berries thaw and the cream freezes. Delicious!

Just remembered this recipe was a life saver for me in the early days, I haven’t done it for a long while but may make some “dumplings” for my casserole now I’ve remembered about it.

it’s so easy and fast and you can add different flavours to it, dark choc chips or high quality cocoa powder, or a few raspberries, vanilla extract or a squeeze of lemon and some zest (my favourite)

Also if you miss out the sweetener you can use it as a savoury bread or dumplings in a stew, or add some grated cheese or Parmesan to make a cheese scone - I used to have it as a sweet scone now and then with some clotted cream and some keto jam

Keto mug cake

3 tablespoons Almond flour
Half teaspoon Baking Powder
1 egg
1 Tablespoon Butter
Sweetener of your choice to taste
Mix ingredients. Pour into mug or plastic or glass container. Microwave for 90 seconds.

Thanks for the tag @Pipp , I think @DJC3 has covered everything I would have suggested for you @emb2681, I haven’t lost my sweet tooth since my type 2 diagnosis so DGF is a life saver for me :)
