After being type 2 for many years I have still not got my head completely around this condition. One of the things is sweeteners.
Can anybody advise what is the best sweetener to use.
Thanks
Dave

Short answer is no because we don't all react the same to sweeteners just like we don't all react the same to the same quantity of the exact same carbs.
Plus some hate the taste of certain sweeteners, some find they get 'the trots' and some have a pet dog and so avoid Xylitol because it's poisonous for dogs.

For me personally, the best sweetener is no sweetener at all, though I do sometimes add a little Stevia to un-forced Rhubarb.

There is some information about Sugar Alcohols (Polyols) in this thread ... https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/sugar-alcohols-which-ones-spike-your-blood-sugar.204710/

Many Low Sugar products use polyols instead of sugar. Unfortunately Maltitol has a Glycemix Index (GI) almost as high as table sugar. So it so see that as ingredient, avoid if you want to keep blood sugars lower. Another ingredient with a high GI added to Low Sugar products is Maltodextrin. See https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/the-worst-food-ingredient-for-diabetics.205076/

There is a video on some sweeteners Monk Fruit, Stevia, Erythritol & Xylitol with low or zero GI ...

I don't like the taste of Stevia, even the smallest amount leaves a horrible after taste. Mostly I use sweetex in hot drinks and if I want to add sweetener to my cereal I use Canderel spoonful. If making custard I use 1 tbspn of sugar rather than 2. Then again I'm on pump therapy so as long as I give insulin for what i eat I'm good. Basically if you can try different sweetners at cafe's and fast food places. I know McDonald's use powdered sweetex.

I have a teaspoon of honey every morning with my porridge or Shredded Wheat.
Artificial sweeteners are a product that do not exist in nature.
They wreck your microbiome.
I no longer touch them.
Make sure to read the label.
A few years ago I got some for someone else and the main ingredient was glucose... I kid you not!
Best is to stop the need for sweetness.
I have no soft drinks.
I do eat berries every day and I have two dates every morning.
But that's me.

Stevia works for me. Some people hate it.
I don’t mind stevia although it does leave a “cooling” sensation in my mouth. I only use it in baking now & then as I don’t particularly have a sweet tooth. I use the drops as I find they store better because I don’t use it often enough to have the granulated one
