Sweetners

Your question is a bit vague. Which particular sweetener are you specifically asking about?

Depends on the sweetener. Fruit sweeteners (fructose) aren't any better than sugar.

I have always considered sweetener to be much better than sugar and have never been concerned about my sweetener intake.

I think sweeteners are personal, choice , lots of views here ..
Depends what you want to eat and drink ..
I do sometimes like , xylitol for baking though .. Or sometimes stevetia half and half ..

I drink a lot of water, just by itself though have been known to add crushed limes.
Not a fan of sweeteners, they taste.... meh... imho.

I love crushed limes :) lovely in water ..
Nice to catch up with you @hamjam

I would say it would depend on how much and what type.
If it's just a few sweetener tabs per day I wouldn't think it would matter much.
I have a book that i was reading just yesterday. It said this about sweetener.

Carbs per 100g
Aspartame - 85
Erythritol - 5
Stevia - 5
Sucralose - 0
Xylitol - 60

So the type of sweetener and amount does make a difference if your having a lot.

@JohnEGreen

From Dr Google - I was thinking same as you, but we are wrong!
Saccharin – GI: Variable
Sweetener Net Carbs (Per 100g) Calories (Per 100g)
Xylitol 60 240
Maltitol 67 270
Sucralose 0 0
Aspartame 85 352

Are you sure or is that a typo?

That's what the book I read said...

Well blow me down with a feather so the only benefit from sweeteners is you use less of it at a time cause the carbs in 100g of sugar aint much different, sweeteners you just take longer to get there I think I'm going to give up both.

Must add I have never put 100g of sugar or sweetener in my cup of coffee or tea well not since I was about 5 years old any way. And my dad said you put it in you will drink it a lesson well learned.

Hi I have the odd Stevia in a coffee every now and then.

Its not the actual sweetener thats the problem but the filler they use to bulk it out, such as Maltodextrin. Use one of he liquid sweeteners instead, they tend to be carb free.

Whilst the value of carbs for Aspartame is correct, remember that the density of Aspartame is very low.

100g of Aspartame would probably fill a small bucket. To sweeten an entire cake you'd need less than 5g probably. It's the concentrated sweetness that makes it desirable to manufacturers of things like diet drinks.
