Hi all, I have a question regarding my ankle. I've been playing basketball over the past 4 weeks, once to 2 times a week. Since then, I've noticed swelling on my right angle only...the swelling is not just after basketball, but at days that I don't play. My ankle will swell when I am sitting down at work. It will also swell if I wear tight does. There is a slight pulsating pain above the ankle when I stand, and there is a brown marking around where it swells. I am aware that diabetics get swelling if the ankle, but I control my type 1 diabetes very well and I exercise a lot. Any comments welcome guys. Thank you.

It might just be a normal sprain @Yiannim but if it was me, I'd get a doctor to take a quick look and check it out.

@Yiannim - I'm not T1, so can't comment on the diabetes aspects of your query, but on your ankle, could the brownish marking you have noticed be a bruise? An ageing bruise goes through many colour changes as the blood cells are broken down as the bruise resolves itself.

It does make sense to have a Doctor or other suitably qualified person give it the once over.

Thank you andbreath...the funny thing is, I don't recall hitting it...and you are right primarily it's what I thought...but I have experienced bruising and familiar with its formation :) this I feel is different.. indeed I will check it out

I've had that for years. If it's only one ankle it isn't important. Don't worry about it.

The same thing happened to me and Iwas sent to the DVT for sonoscan.."..no DVT.Blood taken BenceJones prt.........Xray x12. noLymphoma ongoing. Still swellingPM.I think as Akuaku.

I have swelling in both ankles and they look bruised but are a dark red colour......the Doctor is not 100% sure
but has diagnosed it as a form of Phlebitis and is treating it with an Oil called Mepentol which I apply twice a day.
Apparently it helps to stop any ulceration caused by th Diabetes as you get older...I am 78 Type 2 .
Hope this may be of some use..........best wishes to all.
