Symptomatic But Unconfirmed Diagnosis

Hello, I came here to this forum puzzled because of my case.

Around 4-5 months ago, I have noticed that my body started to experience
diabetes-like symptoms: sweet taste in my mouth, headaches and more frequent
urination.

I went to a doctor who checked my fasting and Hba1c that were normal. Before
that, I went on a low-carb diet before I see an endo. After a week of such diet,
my GP sent me for GTT just in case. I have failed with glucose at 14.2 at 2 hours.

This got me sent to an endo. He tested my fasting, hba1c, fructosamine, IA-2,
GAD and ICA antibodies. I also got tested for thyroid antibodies for hypo and
hyper thyrodism. All of those tests have shown 0 antibodies.

Then my endo thought it might be insulin resistance from lower calories and low
carbing that made me fail the GTT. I was told to increase carbs intake and discharged.
My GP is also informed "no diabetes".

My big issue is that I have tried to indulge in carbs. Almost always I am pushing
something high like 9-13+ after an hour. The carbs amount is not large, around
30g of complex starches. I have tried to increase for a week and a bit but my pancreas
did not wake up.

I am back to low-carbing and noticed more things: the BG now goes higher from foods
such as ham and eggs than 2 months ago. In addition, my BG rises during exercise quite
a bit while just a month ago even walking would reduce my BG.

Usually, I am hovering around low 5s on low carb diet and did not go above 6 after such
meals. However, now I am going above 6. And my BG tends to reduce down slower. I know
it is obsessive to test frequently, but I have an OCD and health anxiety.

I am way past so called 'physiological insulin resistance' because of me being on low
carb for 5 months already.

Should I demand more tests? I thought people who were low carbing they have their pancreas
wake up afterwards, not the case for me.

Hi. I wouldn't worry currently but ignore any advice form health professional to increase the carbs unless you have a very unusual health condition. Your BS sounds OK with a hint of early diabetes. It is always possible to be a Late onset T1 which doesn't show up on anti-body tests (like me). A c-peptide test would help highlight that but at the moment I would not order any more tests. Use the meter from time to time and if that starts to rise then see the endo again and perhaps ask for c-peptide but I wouldn't do that yet. If you keep the carbs down and stay or become slim then any insulin resistance should reduce.

My c-peptide is a bit below range, for your information.
