I have been suffering hunger pangs for almost a week now,
feeling weak, palpitations, unwell.

Testing blood glucose level is normal during those times, or at any time.
(I have a home kit to draw blood and test strips).

I was told today, (by an MD) that even its normal, it does not exclude
diabetes.

I have in the past requested for a blood glucose test to my GP to no avail. I will now do this privately,
or find a new GP tomorrow.

Is there anything I can do to help with those horrid hunger pangs, always there, and palpitations and feeling ill, whilst waiting for the glucose challenge test?

Are those symptoms more likely to be Diabetes Type I or 2?

Many thanks.

Type1 or 2 goes on more than 1 factor.. Bloods, age etc.

You need to have an hba1c test done before jumping to conclusions of a self diagnosed diabetes illness.

Your symptoms could describe 100's of diseases....physical as well as mental.... Palpitatitations and feelings of feeling unwell can be mental.. Stress, anxiety as well as physical diseases

See your GP..

Definitely not psychological...
Its biological. I have seen my GP about this, and requested a glucose
challenge test. We all know how difficult to get tests done nowadays,
specially if you are already chronically ill. I have also have three types of
heart failure, angina, and a long list of other illness. So, yes, I can tell
those hunger pangs, arrythmias, sweats etc.. are related to something.

To confirm, I chatted with a doctor today, who also agrees that its likely to
be some type of diabetes, or could be related to my Hashimotos, but he
says, more likely to be some type of Diabetes. And he also mentioned
that are many types of metabolic syndromes which are difficult to diagnose,
or that we have no understanding, knowledge or the diagnostic tools...

Be careful not to psychologize symptoms, its only a few years ago
when diabetes was thought to be psychiatric... :D

Furthermore, all displays of so called mental illness have biological triggers,
such as antidepressants, some antibiotics and other meds, infectious pathogens,
hormonal, and environmental triggers. I take no medications, not even for my
heart failure, ie left ventricular dysfunction, systolic and diastolic heart failure.

Not criticising at all.. Just that without knowing more details as you have just listed .. Some people may jump in feet first.. Ie weight loss and thirst and change in sight are also more physical symptoms that many would have as well... And none of these were listed...

Truly hope that you haven't got D.. As sounds like you have enough to contend with.. Best wishes and hope you get bloods done ok...

No offense taken. It has been such a struggle with the NHS, that I had most of my tests done
privately, including cardiologists, and thyroid. Its a fight to have tests done on the NHS
from my GP...I head similar from others in his surgery.

Its correct to say those symptoms could be attributed to other illnesses. I wil have the
A1C done privately, as well as the glucose tolerance test if the GP is not keen in
investigating, then, will go on from there.

Hi. The symptoms you describe are not typical of diabetes and could be a wide range of illnesses. As you have a meter, testing 2 hours after a meal should give you some idea of your bodies reaction to food. If the meter normally reads something below 8'ish 2 hours after a typical meal that would indicate you are very unlikely to be diabetic. Diabetics often suffer thirst at diagnosis and not hunger pangs?
