Hi All,
Here is my story:
I am 35 years old, athletic body type, South Asian living in Europe for last 14 years. Being surrounding by families of T2 diabetic (Mom, Dad, Aunts, Uncle, Grandfather) I am ware of diabetes and its complication. So I kept myself busy at gym and sports, from 16 till 34 years. Last year i was not regular at gym and running, still did some exercise. And also I did yearly blood checkup for the past 10 years and all seemed fine until this Jan 2018. My results came HbA1C - 8.3 mmol/L and 2 weeks after my clinic wants to double check and it was 9.8 mmol/L. I have lost 4 kgs between Jan - March. My fasted random BS - 12 mmol/L and post meal was 18 mmol/L. I was asked to go to hospital and there they tested my pressure, blood and urine. Already by this time I was eating low carb and balanced diet and exercise. Hospital results showed normal pressure readings, random glucose - 16 mmol/L and ketone 2+ in urine. Doctor explained ketone are due to my low carb diet and I should worry about it. I was asked to give fasted blood to test C-peptide, GAD65 and C-reactive protein and I am put on metformin 500mg in breakfast and dinner after 2 weeks increase in dose 500mg*2 during both meals.
I responded very well my average random BS dropped to 7.5 mmol/L for 3 week period and Nurse mentioned that rest of the results have come and it doesn’t look good. my readings for C-peptide (494 pmol/l) , GAD65 (500 above) and C-reactive protein (0.7) and this means I am LADA
and this is devastating for me. I will meet the doctor on Tuesday.
My question:
For the last 3 days my random BS after 9 pm is shooting over 10 mmol/L for both fasted and post meal (14 mmol/L). I still have same dose of Metformin and also today after 45 mins of workout and running and after 30 mins of resting my random BS is 10 mmol/L it was usually around 4.7 mmol/L over the last 3 weeks. I see a pattern over last 3 days in the increased value in the eveing and night. I am worried and curious to know if anyone in the forum have come across this? Also I feel some sort of burning sensation in my tummy and upper abdomen, I have been reading too much in the web and i fear that my Beta cells in Pancreas are burning out as I am LADA. Is this symptom common to LADA ? or is it bcos of Metformin? or its just my imagination ?
And also all my family is T2 and is it possible that I could be T1.5? My family doctor said its possible and family couldnt believe it. Both my Uncle and Grandfather were diagnosed as T2 at 33 years old and is it possible I m T1.5 at 35.
I have been reading this forum for a month and I am a newbie here. Thanks for reading. Your comments are greatly appreciated.
