Hi, I was diagnosed T1 at 28, they also found it odd as I know of no one in my family who also has T1, however has time has gone on I've realised its not always genetic and not as unusual as they make it out to beNewly diagnosed at age 26 with T1. Around 3 months now. Wanted to know if there is a history of diabetes running in your family? No one that i know has diabetes, doctors are surpised, and want to do more tests on me. Is it that uncommon getting diagnosed over 25 years? This is my first time posting here, have been reading for a while and wow this forum has answered alot of questions that no doctor can answer! Thank you

How is your uncle's general health? I'm really worried about future complications.I'm a 4th generation type 1 my uncle who is 80 years old is still alive and was diagnosed when he was 30. Both he and I have medals for having diabetes for 50 years
It's surprising though how many over 25 are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes
Same story here. Was/am fit and active, was diagnosed at 27.I am T1 diagnosed 20yrs ago at the age of 27 , no diabetic in the family , was very fit , slim . and doctors no idea why i developed it, and still no diabetes in the family ,
Good to hear your dad had no complications. Even more remarkable as treatment must have been more primitive when he was diagnosed. I've been told by GP and even a specialist in hospital I might have MODY and I cling on to hope that that's true. In fact, my GP (who admittedly didn't have great knowledge of type 1 diabetes) was quite confident I have MODY, only because I was still on low doses of insulin nearly a year after diagnosis - I was/ am taking about 8 units of bolus (?) before a good-sized meal of, for example, pasta. My Dad died last year after almost 80years as a Type1 but no complications. I also have Type 1, my brother has MODY
