Hi all
I'm 26 and got diagnosed as type 1 4 months ago. I'm on MDI and use the libre. Soo..my friend has got me a ticket for greenman festival in wales. We will be there for 5 days doing craft workshops and camping.
Have any of you been to this festival?
Would you recommend staying in the accessibility campsite to have use of fridges etc or do you camp on the other sites?
When I went camping in may I was soo cold I was in a giant hypo the whole time so im a bit nervous!
Any tips would be great :)

Hi @Katey14064 - as long as you are testing lots and go prepared then there's no reason why you can't have a great time, I would just prep talk a mate who knows you well to look out for you so they recognise if you are low and know how to treat you in case you get confused, the Libre will help loads tho, am also tagging @tim2000s as he's recently back from Glastonbury :)

Hello:)

My only advice would be to keep an extra close eye on your BG if you're on the bevvy.

Also, if you're rationale for having access to fridges for your insulin, then there's no real need. For example, Novorapid is good out the fridge for 4 weeks and Levemir - 6 weeks; so you'll be fine with both your in use insulin and spares un-refrigerated.

Hope you have fun:)

U didn't know that. I use novarapid and lantus. .Is that ok out the fridge? As long as I leave it in the shade in my tent?

I'm soo excited..Just tres nervous about late night hypos cos of the cold!! I'll be taking stacks of dextrose :)

Also in terms of sharps..reckon the first aid tent will let Me dispose there..I don't wanna take 1l bin really!!!

Lantus should be good for a minimum of 28 days, don't quote me on that but it won't be any less than that.

All insulin is okay out the fridge when in use, there's no need to store in use insulin in the fridge and it's not advised.

As long as the insulin is kept below 28degC and out of direct sunlight then you'll be sound:) Tents can get pretty hot with the sun beating down on them, so it's probably best in your bag or pockets.

You'll be fine just as long as you keep regularly testing. Dextrose is good to bring you up quickly, but complex carbs will keep you up there longer - once the dextrose has got you where you want to be.

Knocking back your basal dose by as little as 10/15% may help you a long way in preventing frequent hypos. If you give your DSN a ring, he/she will be able to advise accordingly:)

Hi,

I can't realy elaborate on what's already been said.. I have been to a few festivals myself. Mainly European ones.
I use Novo & Lantus.
With regards to any potential heat. Have you looked at Frio wallets.? They're great. Just soak the inner pouch in water, then pat any excess off & the hotter it gets the the safer it keeps your insulin at room temp..

Have fun!

I'd also recommend not leaving insulin in your tent. If it's sunny, the internal temperature of tents has a bad habit of getting much hotter than you think, and you're better off making sure essential supplies like insulin are with you and safe than left in a tent where they can be nicked.

Just put sharps in an empty drinks bottle to take home and decant into your actual sharps box. Or I would usually use an empty altoids tin for sharps when out and about and there should be plenty of room in therefor 5 days worth of needles.

Have fun.

Yes I've seen these at my DSN clinic actually..Could be a lifesaver as I do trabelieve a lot :)

Same here. What I would say is, because the pouch works by evaporating moisture to keep the insulin cool.
Make sure you alow evaporation if in a bag? Maybe a seperate secure open/semi open or mesh pocket..
It won't get you bag wet. It just needs to breath a bit.
You won't get any greif with it with airport hand luggage scans either..
