Hi
My older sister is T2 for the last 6 years and she also have thyroid problems. She started to go on low carb diet for the last 5 months. It started to give good results and reduce medications intake, BG started to be lower than 200mg/dl.
The problem is, even with low carb and exercise, her BG reading swing between 130-190mg/dl all the time for fasting and after meal and we don't know what else to do in order stabilize it. I would appreciate any suggestions helping in control this issue.
Note:
She uses medications for thyroid and 1x850mg mitformin.
She is 46 years old.

Hopefully your sister can find answers to those questions via her doctor. @ickihun is a forum member who knows a lot about thyroid issues and T2, so she may have something to add.

I also take Thyroxine each day, but by eating a low carb diet my levels seem fairly steady - but to get them so I needed to adjust when I ate, and also the amount of carbs in each meal - in my case lower in the morning than at night.

I have an under-active thyroid. On a LCHF eating regime I lost 5 stone. I paid for a private blood test that showed that I do not convert TSH (T4) to T3 so I supplement with T3 sourced from abroad as NHS will not supply this medication. Reduced medication by half but don't know whether it was the diet or T3 but I feel much better.
