Can anyone offer advice or recommend a good book to someone who doesn't have a weight problem? Everything I read and hear is about losing weight and that is the last thing I need to do. Thanks.

Hello and welcome.

It can be a problem because as type 2's we have to cut out sugar, and seriously reduce our carb intake. Hence, we lose weight. In order to make up these lost calories we have to increase our fats and/or protein amounts. There is little choice really. It can be a fine balancing act, and not easy. I know from experience. I did need to lose weight, and I lost 4 stones. Then I needed to stay where I was and not lose or gain. I increased some of the higher calorie stuff like cheese, ate even more butter and tried larger protein portions. Initially, you will need to not only count your carbs but also count your calories to make sure you are consuming enough calories for your body and exercise routines.

A good book is Carbs & Cals from Amazon (also available as an app but the book is better) and a good way to help you keep a check is the My Fitness Pal website (also an app).

Have a good browse round the forum and come back with any questions.

Hi welcome from me too :). I'm not sure if @daisy1 's advice for new members covers this, but hopefully we'll soon find out;)

There are quite a few members here who have the same problem as you, not me I'm afraid though, I dream of that day:) maybe some of them will turn up here to give you advice.

What are you eating? I was never overweight and with the recommended NHS diet (low fat, some carbs) I became emaciated. Luckily I found this forum and now with low carbs and plenty of good fat I'm a steady 70 kilos. Well, 68 in the mornings and 70 in the evenings. I don't count carbs or calories -- I'm still juggling with my base BG -- but no spikes lately.

Hi. With someone who is diagnosed as T2 when slim there is always the possibility of a mis-diagnosis when you might actually have Late onset T1 (LADA). Do eat plenty of protein, fats and veg keeping the carbs down. If your blood sugar isn't under good control (use the HBA1C as a measure) then ask for the two tests for LADA.

Hmm, that could apply to me & T2Dave then. Maybe I'll see if there's a GP free before next July

Hello and welcome.
Im the same as you,I dont need to lose weight but I have lost a stone and getting a bit worried,I dont look good.
Carbs make my BS spike,I have now been eating more protein and fat, even changed to full fat milk and eat butter and cheese which the X Pert told me not to.
I get my next test in April so I am hanging on and hope I am doing the right thing.
I am taking advice from people on the forum who know better than me.

I must add I feel very well and my blood sugar has dropped from 58 to 46 since June.

I am a skinny type 2 I eat plenty of cheese and butter and. cream ,nuts are a good snack I admit it isn't easy but if you keep trying different foods testing to make sure your BG s don't go too high
PS avocado are good !

There are a few of us here who were never overweight but lost some anyway when we did not need to me being one of them and yes you are right everything you read is about loosing weight not how to keep the weight on and this is more difficukt than loosing it.. For me personally I can't go to low with the carbs as I just loose more weight so I still eat some potatoes and bread....I have Burgen linseed and soya bread..most vegetables and fruit and I am steady now and have not lost any more but I would love to put on 3 or 4 pound though. I do eat a lot of nuts and have good oils like Olive oil and coconut oil and this seems to keep me from loosing any more weight A lot here do the low carb high fat diet but mine is more moderate carbs and fat as I am not a big fat lover so I don't have the fry ups and lots of butter and cream or red meat I eat a lot of chicken and have fish cheese and eggs and I do have full fat greek style yogurt which I make myself with the EasiYo system. We all have to find the way that suits us best so you will have to experiment to find out what stops you loosing weight
