Type 2 T2 Pulling hair out - not sure what to do

Dr Malcolm Kendrick has asked if people could send him a link to the research they are quoting when they say this. So far I don't think anyone has replied.

Kendrick has a couple of blog pages worth another look at.

Possibly he didn't expect to become such a widely quoted authority on the subject, and it's starting to hang heavy around his neck now.

Worth a read with an open mind.

I am using Ezetimibe, which is NOT a statin, but lowers LDL (and only LDL). It has a different mechanism that statins., and I have not seen it associated with bad side effects so far. I too am against statins for me, and prefer the latest studies that show older men benefit from high CHOL levels in terms of CVD mortality. There was also a study that showed post mortems from those who died from CVD in hospital were in general low cholesterol , and few had 'dangerous' levels.

So it seems the cholesterol science is up for revision, Sorry, I don't have the links on my new computer, but they are on the forum in another thread somewhere in the past 6 months.

I found when I dropped any saturated fats, my cholesterol fell into it's sweet spot, even according to Kendriks blog.
However, maybe the hospital study was Kendriks 'yellow finger' theory.
Anyone with bad cholesterol in a hospital would be on statins.
That would reduce the cholesterol fairly quickly.
But the damage was already done, and the clotting still killed you.

One tip that used to be given for people who didn't want to go low fat but were worried about LDL was to make sure they ate at least twice as much unsaturated fat as saturated fat.

No saturated fats is better for me.

Just watched these videos. They are amazing! My lipid profile changes are entirely understandable and explainable - except my small increase in trigs - maybe an anomaly. Feel a lot better now. Still going to continue with my fat diet but exercise more and try to build some muscle.
Thanks Brunneria.

I'm going to eat more unsat fat - thanks

Hubby and I also had cholesterol going in wrong dirrction when adding in heavy creams and cheese.
Eliminating those helped a lot.
I couldn't take statins and was given exemitide. A reasearch consultant I saw told me not to bother as one statin of lowest dosage a week was more effective than that drug. By the time I went home from the research day and hearing how the drug wasnt effective, I stopped taking it.

Flax seed, chia and nuts have loads of nutrients in and are meant to be healthy. However, even this for me gives me a little bit of incertainty towards that info now. Today I read about the glysophate found in flax seed!!

Interestingly, my HIT exercise has reduced in this last 6 weeks or so. Maybe that hasn't helped. Still a bit confused with these figures though. If my ratios are good do I need to worry about the levels? J
The other change I made to improve HDL and lower LDL was to increase my Salmon and Mackerel intake, I then backed off of the Salmon a bit due to mercury concerns (now I get wild Salmon reduced offers at Morrison's, which I buy in bulk and freeze). Now I have biased towards nuts; then you read stuff about selenium - ahh! Now I still over do the nuts and don't worry as my numbers came back alright on this occasion. You may need to adjust anything you eat which has raised saturates.

Try the statins........not everyone has the horrible side effects. I've been on a low dose for nearly ten years and never noticed them. My cholesterol is ace tho

Ha ha @jonnoras I've just tried the same calculator and it came up with a similar answer! Now I don't know whether to be worried or not
. ..

I think I have read somewhere that there are two types of ldl and the type that is produced by saturated fat has larger molecules and does not cause problems, just google it.

I searched for ldl cholesterol molecule size,

wow. Apart from Kendrick that you quote what are the best sources of info on cholesterol. I would be particularly interested if anyone from the established veiwpoint has engaged with the arguements kendrick and the author of the article puts forward. i was given statins when i was diagnosed with diabetes in june but stopped taking them afyrr a short time. i recently got a letter from the doctor urgong me to start again.

I know that Oldvatr did a lot of research on cholesterol and different perspectives, when he switched to LCHF so I will tag him in case he has any of the details/links handy. (Happy Xmas @Oldvatr ) He may be off partying though, so I don't know when/if he will respond

What usually happens in the media is that members of The Establishment poo poo such evidence, and say things like 'many studies show the link between cholesterol and heart disease', but when asked for details of these studies, they go quiet.

Try this as a starter (see pdf file attached)

There have been several recent studies (2016) that established that the original RCT triala were based on bad statistical methods thet allowed the results to be skewed and corrupted. So the early trials seem to be useless, but these are the ones that the doctors accept as gospel truth. I personally looked at one of these trials data sets, and it was clear that the test data did not support the claims made by the dtugs company. they claimed something like a 47% reduction in CVD deaths, wheresa the data showed that it was less than 1% and poorly correlated at that.

So I refuse to take statins simply because I think they lied about how good they were for us.

Sorry cannot disuss any further due to family comittments this weekend/
Happy festive season to all my readers. Thanks Brunneria. Happy whatsit (my daughter is an athiest and forbids me using those dreaded words)

There is a graph showing all cause mortality against cholesterol levels from 168 countries. It was originally compiled by W.H.O. but has been used by many people.

Oh @Squire Fulwood THANK YOU!
I have seen that chart before, but haven't been able to find it for ages.
Have now saved it as an image, and will post it below in case it helps anyone else.
The print is a little small, and the units are American, so have also added a converter.

The red dotted line is the Deaths From Cardiovascular Disease, with a lowest mortality rate when cholesterol is approx 5.4 in UK units (mmol/l)

Here is a link to the converter

Thanks @Brunneria you have added value. The PDF is also handy in that once downloaded you can + + until it is big enough to read.
