I am T2 since diagnosed in 2004 , managed well with oral medication and good diet until I had surgery for an unrelated matter whereupon in hospital my BG was up to 23 mm.
I was immediately put on insulin 20 units a day , until my discharge and am now on continuous insulin injections but 7 units a day plus my diet also Linagliptin tablets.
I have had to declare it to DVLA and insurance company ,
How long will insulin continue, my diabetic nurse cant give a prognosis.
My levels now are before breakfast 5.6 , midday 8.3 , before bed between 6 and 8

Hi. It's impossible to say, but if you are a T2 you may be able to wean yourself off insulin if you stick to a low-carb diet. If you are not already low-carbing, go down that route and see if you can gradually reduce the insulin. Make sure you test frequently and seek GP/DN advice as necessary. Many T2s are on Metformin, so do ask the GP to consider adding that to the Linagliptin.

I,m interested in this post
I was put on insulin about 6 weeks ago, 28 units morning and 22 units evening. It has helped but not low enough to be happy with.
Am hoping I won't be on insulin long term
