Type 2 Takeaway

I’m sure I’ll be vilified for this but I am having quite good success with weight loss, BP, mmol, etc. I very rarely have takeaway & I believe the way to keep me on track is a rare treat. Chinese is just a portion of ribs & a pancake roll. Fish & chips is fish, no chips, most of batter removed. A kebab is hot wings, and maybe 2-3 strips of my Wife’s kebab meat. No sauce or the flat bread of course. My diabetes my way but I’d love to hear what others have as a real treat

Chinese - foo yung or chop suey no sauce or salt and pepper ribs
Indian- mixed tandoori starter of lamb and chicken, saag paneer
Kebab place - chicken kebab with salad no bread
Don’t do fish chippy very much at all, if on the very rare occasion I do I get a very large fish and remove all the batter
Pizza - I don’t touch, I make my own keto one if others have pizza
We aren’t a big take away family anyway maybe once a month/6 weeks

Oh wow, that makes me feel so much better. I don’t like Indian so not an issue there. In all honesty we only have takeaway when visiting family and then not always. Fish & chips 2-3 times a year, kebab 1-2, Chinese 2-4 times. My real treat is breakfast with my friend which is 6-8 times a year, it consists of 3 eggs on 1 slice of fried bread & 2 sausages. I also eat everything with my fingers which slows me down so I eat small amounts. I think the reason people fail is being too rigid. I never eat sweets & my fried bread is the only bread I eat

Thank you so much. We don’t like pizza so that’s out for us

I don't think I've ever seen anyone "vilified" on this forum, our mods are too good to allow that sort of nonsense.
The only problem I have with takeaways is that I still have to do the washing up afterwards, if I'm paying someone to cook my meal, I would rather eat it at their place and let them clean up.
I meant no disrespect to anyone, I’m just very aware that the whole subject of diabetes is a very emotive one and whilst I’m aware that some really struggle I wanted to ask what for me is a very serious fact finding question. I see your point about the washing up, my Wife and I are not comfortable eating out so the occasional takeaway is a real treat

Nothing wrong at all with take away, plenty to choose from that won't mess with diabetes.
Thank you. I was told by the DN not to bother testing but for the last month I’ve been checking fasting etc more out of curiosity. We are having Chinese this Saturday so I’m going to do a before & after test just for curiosity again

As you may have guessed, we don't really listen. Good on you for testing, It is the key essential tool for maintaining diabetes. I didn't listen to my DN and they said the same thing, not to test. Did not make any sense.

A little bit of what you like is important otherwise what's the point of life. So long as its just a treat every so often.
Had my first Chinese this year a few days ago, Also started Insulin a month ago and was very surprised at how low my BG levels were afterwards, Silver lining to every cloud lol

If I have take away I’ll eat everything, so could be plaice and chips, McDonald’s or a pizza. I don't eat normally so it’s a bonus when I order a take away I really enjoy. There’s not much savoury food I would say I enjoy at all.

I have allowed myself four gastronomic treats during the past 21 months: two chocolate ice creams; one chocolate from a box of them; and a single ginger biscuit. I shall have another biscuit next September and maybe a couple of ice creams next summer. Much to look forward to! Absolutely agree we should not be bleak all the time.

Thank you all so much. I agree that if you find a reason to have a treat then you are getting lost but very rarely is like a small reward. I’m picking up so much valuable information & it’s helping with my drive to reversal rather than making sure I’m doing the same as everyone else but looking at the replies it’s easy to see that everyone owns their own diabetes & deals with it in their own way & attitude. Thank you once again

If I eat one, which is rare, I'd only use half the tray of fried rice, give the rest to the kids.
Beef Szechuan is my normal go to.
If at home I bring the dog for a walk after so that takes care of any spike.
If out in a restaurant I'd have a few beers, my liver seems to ignore carbs while drinking.
Not perfect but it works for me.

Funny thing is I can handle a McDonalds or Fish & Chips pretty well, fries(potatoes) are not my enemy.
Rice & noodles tend to be far more spikey.

That’s really interesting thank you. I don’t like rice or pasta so I’m spared that craving, bread is a bit of a craving for me & as for potatoes I could eat a very large bowlful along with a pat of butter but I’m very restrained. I love ice cream so I have Halo Top which is high protein & low carbs and I love jelly so I have the Hartley’s sugar free crystals, it’s delicious. I don’t miss cakes & not really biscuits, being a bit of a carnivore I’m pretty good. As I said in my original post I do have rare treats and the thing I look most forward to is my occasional slice of fried bread. Thank you for your reply, I’m getting so much from these replies & I hope others are as well, it’s what it’s all about

If you like a slice of fried bread (one of my weaknesses too) you can buy low carb bread some of which are very good. I buy from the low carb food company, their bread toasts and fries very well and their rolls and pizza bases are good too. Keep in the freezer for the occasional treat. It is more expensive than regular bread but I weigh it up against all the sweets, cakes crisps etc I could be buying, link for you below

Thank you so much for this information which I’m sure others will also be grateful for. I never keep any bread in the home, my fried bread treat is only ever when I go out to breakfast with my friend which around 6 times a year. Unfortunately I can resist everything but temptation
