I am t2, insulin dependant,59 years old and want to get a small tattoo to commemorate my late wife's life and our love, but have been told that it is not a good idea to be tattooed if you have diabetes. my bloods are fairly well controlled averaging around 6.9 does anyone have any experince of having one done and were there any complications.

Had all my 18 tarts with type 1 and never had a problem just takes a bit longer to heal just common sense really

We know - what you really meant ;):)
No worries .
I wish haha 18 tarts I'd be so lucky and my wife would have something to say about that

Here is another recent thread on tattoos for you to read if you wish .

Hope you find it useful .

Most important - is that you find the right tattooist .
Go along and chat to them "all" before make the final choice .
Explain about being diabetic etc .
The right one - will take all things into consideration .

Your choice of design , time of day most suited with your insulin
regime best for you .
Ask you to bring along your meter test kit and hypo kit .
Test pre-tattoo and stop for a break , allow you to test and
take a breather .
Look for a 'clean' tattoo salon and environment .
Singular pre-sterile packs used individually .
Good aftercare advice and good pre-tattoo preparation is essential .

My own tattoo healed well in a week of time .
Mine offered me a free after tattoo check up and offered
any touch up work free of extra cost too .
Thankfully it wasn't needed .

What type of design are you thinking off with your late wife
in mind ?
Lovely idea if you don't mind me saying

I've had all my tattoos since being diabetic they've all healed in the usual time and I've not said I was diabetic.

No I've never mentioned that I was a diabetic (Type1) and proud of it !!

My wife just mentioned when I had my tattoos I had a fairly poor controlled type 1 perhaps that's why the healing took bit longer? When I said I should get some more now I'm well controlled on a pump !.
The Look of horror

I'm type 2, recently had my left forearm sleaved (4x3 hour sessions), never had any problems, Dave the tattooist told me to use sudocrem for 4 days the cocoa butter after that, did what he said and tattoo was healed with no scabs in 7 or 8 days, was really surprised, the 13 tatts i had done 25 years ago scabbed really bad and took a couple of weeks to heal, the only thing i didn't like was the pain, it was a different sensation to what i remember and wonder if it was down to the diabetes

me to 2 tattoos type 2 no probs healed fast for me xx

Type one. Tattoo done. no problems healing either. Point to mention. It was at a "down point" in life when control/management wasn't at its best.. ;) Just make sure you get references/do research on your tattooist..
