Hi guys new to the forum. Hope everyone is well. Quick question tattoos I've got a few but got them before I was diagnosed now the diabetic doc told me no more they advise against it. I went with my mate to get his done and the tattooist said we can get them he's done a few ppl with diabetes? Any info muchly appreciated as I want to get a couple more

I've had all my tattoos (6) since being diabetic and haven't had any problems, they've all healed within normal time. I did not tell the tattooist I was diabetic because I didn't want the decision taken away from me. I certainly want more done!!

Yes listen to your own body. I had my back piece done after I was diagnosed Type 2 and it healed as fast as a healthy person's. Was stopped getting my ears pierced because I was honest about it and really it's not their decision (bloody health and safety!) If you control your BS well and no other complications there is no reason to stop you. Go for it! (just don't tell them you are diabetic as some won't touch you for fear of diabetic being the same as hemopheliac!

I've also had all mine (5) done whilst diabetic and never had any problems. Just keep your levels good and follow the usual aftercare

I was diagnosed type 1 January and had a 5 hour back piece done in March! I was honest with my tattooist and told him I was diabetic. As it was a 5 hour sitting I had to as I would have to check my blood. As long as your levels are good and you follow the proper after care advice you really have no more risk of infection that anyone else. They are just more cautious as diabetics are known to not heal as well as others so more prone to infection. Depending how long you will be just make sure you take snacks and if you need a break say. I'm a bit of an ink addict so no way could I live not getting anymore. Mine healed up super fast (I've always been a fast healer) and booked back in for the next one :-)

I'm another one with a tatt with no issues.. Make sure the tattooist is reputable & follow the after care..

I have three since diagnosis. The main thing is just to really nail your control in the run up and while they are healing. I was especially tight with my control so as to avoid giving any possible infection additional food.

I have had it by a couple of different artists, one had never knowingly done a T1 so I educated him. The other had knowingly done a few and never seen problems.

Other than that same after care as you normally would.
