Hey guys:)

I have read into the benefits of supplementing taurine and have also discovered it can be very helpful for diabetes. I know taurine has an insulin like activity and can stimulate glycolysis and glucogenesis. I was just wondering if anyone has tried out supplementing taurine and whether its helped them and it what ways? Also should i consider reducing my insulin dose before i start? (ive been reluctant to take them for a while in fear of hypo) Im type 1 diabetic 2 long acting doses a day plus quick acting in between. Hope to hear back soon:)

Hi @Type1John:) I've moved this to Type 1 for you in the hope of getting an answer.

I've never taken that supplement. If you get no answers here, perhaps your DSN can advise.

From online research into natural sources of taurine - "beef, lamb, dark chicken meat, eggs, most dairy products, seaweed, krill and brewer's yeast. Raw meat is fairly rich in taurine, comparable to fish, but cooked varieties typically have only 10 milligrams of taurine per ounce"

Diabetics could be short of this amino acid. I'd seek a blood test.

This sounds interesting! I have never heard it could benefit diabetics but i did read that it aids the liver in clearing away/breaking down fats - which is why its good for a hang over morning lol

Maybe start at a lower dose and work your way up so that any change in sugars would be gradual and easily accountable. Either way keep us posted!
