soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
There was an item on radio 4's Today programme yesterday, suggesting that there should be a tax on chocolate. the idea of Dr. David Walker as a way of reducing obesity and T2 diabetes. His opponent in the debate Prof Roger Corder was there telling him that taxing sugar would be a better idea.
Walker said defining "sugar" to tax it would be too hard and too easy for the food industry to get round. ( that's why I think he doesn't know much). Fergus and I together, with input from Trink, could define sugar so it couldn't be "cheated on" I'm sure. Anyway I wrote to Corder and got an answer agreeing that carbs are what need reducing and pointing me to his own book "The Wine Diet."
Anyone read it?

The bold Dr David is what we in the heathery parts would term a Presbyterian or Wee Free ar*ehole. Came across as a reincarnation of Dr Snoddie of Dr Findlay's Casebook fame. No doubt, however, he has now had his five minutes of fame.

When challenged on a Radio 2 interview he said he knew all about diet and obesity because before he qualified as a doc he took a degree in nutrition!! Now we know.

I plan to get Corder's book. It's called "The Wine diet"

I said I'd get the book Sue, not drink the wine. I don't much like wine really, except a glass of chilled Lambrusco rose every now and again

Folks, you're going to love this...

I have every sympathy with David Walker, the Lanarkshire GP who proposed a tax on chocolate as a way to ease the obesity crisis and reduce the spread of type 2 diabetes, only to see it narrowly voted down at the British Medical Association's conference in Clydebank on Thursday.

Linky.

Have a wander around the poorer areas of the country, Giles and see how people manage without an expense account.

Thanks for that Thirsty,
I think we need a tax on the size of people's heads, he would have to pay a lot then.
Lack of education is an extraordinary handicap when one is being offensive. He may be one of the undiagnosed diabetics. (Hope).
What an a###hole!!!

Catherine.

It's difficult, really, for me to imagine just how much they'd have to tax it to stop me eating chocolate!!! Dumbest idea I've heard for ages.

the same is now true of Alchohol in the news, But when they surveyed which social groups had the biggest probs it was doctors, police etc ......makes you wonder??? But they have to get their taxes from somewhere dont they ?
