Hi all,

I was just wondering if it is ok to still drink tea and coffee? I don't take sugar, so I assumed it all ok but I wanted to check with you guys? I can't test my blood yet as i have to phone docs tomorrow to make an appt to see the diabetic nurse, so while I can't start to pinoint anything yet, I am trying my best to work in a general way i.e cutting right down on my carbs (had about 80g yesterday compared to probably about at least 200..and that was a good day lol) I probably would only have one coffee a day but sometime i can have a few cups of tea, it all depends how i'm feeling so i wanted to be sure.

any advice would be super

Thanks

Becca

i drink loads of tea a day, just got rid of sugar on diagnosis ,soon got used to it without, i dont drink coffee tho :)

Hi Beca

Have read varying things though this is mainly re coffee (strength of caffeine raises cortisol, might impact on insulin). Best way to find out is to test though I have to say that I havent, because
I DONT WANT TO KNOW, becuase like Sue, I have no intention of giving it up. God knows a gals gotta have something left!

On this basis, I continue to drink both though can not bear tea with no sugar though can manage coffee without it. I always took 2 sugars in both and find it impossible to drink tea without it.. Have yet to find a sweetener I like in either (splenda, hermesetas, xylitol, canderel etc etc)

So, go boil the kettle and enjoy!

White tea, no milk, no sugar.

Feeling flush then its Valvona and Crolla for first flush tips but its a bit expensive at about £1 per cup of tea.

Espresso, double no sugar.

No problems with any of the above.

Tea and coffee are not normally a problem. If you want sweetness, use artificial sweeteners. I don't sweeten tea, but I carry sweeteners in my bag for coffee. I use Splenda powder at home.
I suppose the lactose in milk might be a concern for some people, but since I don't make coffee with loads of milk, I disregard it. Habitual Latte makers might need to calculate the lactoes in their diet.

I used to drink enourmous amounts of strong black coffee and quite strong black tea, I've never took milk or sugar (long story)

I now only drink de caff black tea, tetleys i find most pleasant at moment. The only problem is it has to mash a little longer to get a full flavour. I probably drink about a dozen or so large mugs a day now.

I feel better for having less caffeine and my legs arn't jumpy at night so much.

Let's all give thanks for mugs of tea
There is no better panace-
a; Keep your guinness, gin & beer
A cup of tea gives greater cheer.

Once, when I sat down to dine
the waiter poured a glass of wine
but in the night, awake in bed
the wine was throbbing round my head.
so now my night-time drink is tea
it doesn't wake me up to go to the bathroom.

On the subject of tea.......

I can drink coffee black with no sugar, but I just can't hack black tea or tea with milk and no sugar.

What I can drink is green tea with a slice of lemon - very refreshing and allegedly quite good for you as well.

Give it a try - you may like it :-)

Cheers

As a lover of black tea, I persuded my wife to buy a box of green tea whilst out shopping. I should have listened to Her (as I always should but so rarely do!) it was awfull, one of the foulest things I've tasted in a while. I can't abide those herbal infusions either, camel something ugh. Just proper tea for me - De caff now

Cameraman, I used to feel the same way but some of the fruit teas are really quite pleasant. Ginger and lime, blackcurrant, lemon and spiced orange flavours are my favourites; they make a refreshing change from coffee and tea. (And caffeine gives me the heebie jeebies.)

My daughter drinks them and often trys to convert me, but no thanks I'll stick to Tetleys :D

Oh, and by the way, put the kettle on Sue I'll be round later

Hm, let's see, I'm afraid I can't abide bad or cheap coffee. I cup of Nespresso (maybe 2 if I'm feeling adventurous) with beautifully frothed semi skimmed milk and 2 sweetex - can't remember the last time I had sugar in drinks - I think I was about 3 years old!!! I cup of tea at 3pm - lightly dunked tea bag, milk 2 sweetex.

Of course all that is then ruined by the G&T at 6.30 when I get home...but it is slimline tonic!!!

There's research demonstrating that caffeine may increase BG and the likelihood of diabetes.

There's an equal amount of research demonstrating that caffeine may decrease BG and be protective against Type 2.

If you try to read through it you will need several cups of java to keep you awake.
