tear duct problems

Has anyone had problems with their eyes, as in over production of tears/possible blockage? I've had this for a couple of months and although reassuringly, my eyes are healthy and sight not too bad, it is really irritating. My doc has more or less said there is nothing he can do and my optometrist says that there is only a 25% success rate in clearing blockages and it isn't a particularly nice procedure! Any ideas would be good :D
 
I used to suffer with permanently wet eyelids with an intermittent itch that would become worse towards autumn. My GP was puzzled but the eye clinic diagnosed an allergy and prescribed Rapitil eye drops (nedocromil sodium) and that cured my problem. I do not use it all the year round though, only when I feel the allergy getting a grip of me.
In prescription form is comes in a 5ml dropper bottle but I have seen a smaller 3ml pack for OTC purchase for £7 something and they will last for a month once opened.
 
That's interesting. What is it an allergy to...pollens etc specifc to the time of year?

I worked with a lad many years ago who had tear duct problems, his handkerchief would be soaking wet with wiping the tears away and his eyes were permanently red. Although I left that employment I happened to bump into a ex-work colleague and asked after this lad's health, apparently he went on to have a operation to repair his ducts and the problem ceased. Like most operations, I would imagine they will only resort to surgery in the most urgent cases as there are risks involved as in any kind of surgery. Hope things improve soon and it isn't to distressing for you!

I presume so. I do suffer with 'hay fever' which can agrevate the asthma for which I take Telfast 120 (fexofenadine) but towards the late Summer into Autumn, either I've become used to the drug or its not strong enough and my eyes start to suffer. That is when I turn to Rapitil and get relief.
