 What a great attitude-B*llocks to cancer I say!
I'm 37 now but developed squamous cell carcinoma of the sigmoid/descending colon in my early/mid thirties,it had spread to my lymph nodes and things looked very bleak and with great fear but a determination to rid myself of this parasite so I could watch my kiddies grow up and grow old with the love of my life I underwent a colectomy procedure along with removal of twenty something lymph nodes-awoke many hours later in the recovery room and knew something was different somehow and my first croaky words were "I haven't got a colostomy have I?" to which I was told "I'm really sorry but they had to as it was a very difficult operation but the consultant believes there's a chance it can be reversed in time" It was as tough as hell to be honest living with the stoma and in 2012 a follow up CT scan revealed a new sinister blow-a tumour on my liver which was almost certainly looking like a secondary spread from the original tumour-things looked very dark indeed and a liver biopsy was performed to confirm the suspicions and all I could think was "**** this thing to hell-You aint getting ME yet!" and imagine my shock and delight when my consultant sat me down and told me the pathology came back as it being benign in origin instead of cancer-there was a chance it could turn cancerous in the future but equally there was a big chance it wouldn't and I opted for that...Early this year I underwent a successful Hartmanns procedure reversal which meant I was free of my bag at last and counting my lucky stars that despite the bleakness of my earlier prognosis and the difficulties of living with a stoma-you never know what fate has in store for you and sometimes fate is not set in stone and against all odds-things can turn around for the better.
Best wishes
Paul

Staying positive counts for a lot. A couple of years ago my son was diagnosed with a sarcoma and, at the age of 28, had only a 20% chance of surviving one year. He however would only talk in terms of 'when I am better'. I had a list of ten boxes that needed ticks, stages of treatment, tests that needed the right results etc. One by one, they were all ticked. He appears to be completely recovered and, God willing, will live a long and healthy life. I hope you can dig deep and find that courage and that strength.
