Tesco and DCUK

Don't know if I'm repeating on this topic but I can't see a thread yet about the Tesco/DCUK link up where they have pledged to raise £10m for diabetes research. Words fail me on the hypocricy of Tesco when they have pushed rubbish food at us for goodness knows how many years and have probably with all the other supermarkets helped to make people obese and at risk of diabetes and are now saying they want to help. Isn't this a bit like one of the big breweries teaming up with Alcoholics Anonomys to find out why people become hooked on booze? Talk about shutting the stable door when the horse has bolted (sorry!)
 
Tesco has a line of prepared foods called Healthy Eating (but the jury is still out on that). My sister was infuriated and when in Tesco she asked where the unhealthy eating products were.

The staff do not have a sense of humour.
 
Hi Chris actually Diabetes UK is nothing to do with Diabetes.co.uk (DCUK) the former is a charity and the latter is a commercial web site which includes this forum.

And IMHO far from pushing rubbish food I believe Tesco to be a supermarket that sells a whole range of foods, drinks and other products just as every other supermarket does. If you feel strongly about them then I suggest you dont shop there but I would think that every other supermarket operates in a similar manner.

As for the £10 million they have pledged to diabetes research I applaud them :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: Surely the more money raised to help find a cure for this awful disease the better.

You beat me to it! But yes, just to clarify - Diabetes.co.uk and Diabetes UK are entirely separate. We have no affiliation with Tesco.
 
Nobody's forcing you to eat their rubbish food. Which supermarket sells the healthiest food? I've shopped in tesco, Sainsburys and Waitrose they all sell similar foods!
 
Tesco sells fresh veg ,water, brown basmatti rice , cheese ,etc if people choose to eat horse burgers Tesco hasnt had their arm up their back. Not a lover of Tesco myself but the money they are donating may one day help us DBs

We are all responsible for what we eat. If I choose to load up my basket with unhealthy food I can't blame Tesco as they also sell healthy food. There is something to be said for personal responsibility and I feel we are becoming more and more a society looking for someone to blame and pin our poor choices on. Regardless of whether or not you agree, that 10 million will do a lot of good.

i have to agree with the replies, if tesco hadnt sold junk food (when i ate it) i would have found a supermarket that did
 
I agree that we all decide what we put in our shopping baskets. However, I think all the major supermarkets should take a little responsibility for the E numbers, misleading labelling and packaging, false "healthy eating" and "low fat" claims etc etc. Also, there is very little profit for them in healthy food and fresh fruit & veg. The majority of their profit is made from prepared food. This is why much of their promotion is concentrated in these areas. Still, at least Tesco is giving something back ! That's more than the others are doing !

In this months 'Balance Magazine' Diabetes UK have announced this news of
the research pledge from Tesco with Diabetes UK .

This is where the 'mix up' with us here at DCUK may have occurred .
People may read this - thinking its DCUK.

All members/subscribers of Diabetes UK "will recieve" this monthly Balance Magazine .

Either way its a positive step forward to putting more into diabetes research available .

Oh come on people, do you really think that a multinational totally profit driven company is the slightest bit interested in diabetes ?
PROFIT is the ONLY motive !

Have you been into tesco today?

7 feet tall cardboard signage when you walk in, "we're sorry"
Then at every till point " what we learnt from burgers".
Now heres an idea, every 1000th customer gets their grocery shop free.
There you go tesco, I've just saved your business.

Every shop has the same food in their aisles (well close enough) so why single out just Tesco it's up to the customer what shopping they buy, not the employees of the supermarket. It's all about will power, the will power of thinking no I don't want these unhealthy manufactured items, in this case isn't it the manufacturers who technically fill up supermarkets shelves? All you need to do is think before you buy. Well done to Tesco for helping diabetics by raising money to help with research and stuff Ill take my hat off for the effort
