Any advice greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Cold weather, angry people, queues,
I would say it's what is known as the dawn phenomenon a liver dump of glucose to get you going in the morning , it happens to just about everybody diabetic or not , those figures aren't to high so I wouldn't be to worried as long as they come down later in the day .

As @jaywak says, it's probably dawn phenomenon. Absolutely nothing to do with what you ate last night.

Our livers constantly add glucose to the bloodstream - it seems there are only around 4g of glucose in the blood at any one time, so livers keep adjusting levels for what they think we need, usually in response to things like adrenaline.

Livers are slow learners, and one of the things they like to do is dump a load of glucose in the bloodstream early in the morning to get us going. My liver does this any time between 3.30 am and 7am, and if I do nothing it will go on adding more and more glucose. I can stop the rise with "food" - three hazelnuts will do it, or a cup of coffee with cream.

I tested for this once (fingerprick every hour from 0630 if I remember right) - nothing at all to eat and no coffee - and blood glucose was still slowly rising at 2pm, which was where I got bored and had my coffee.

In my experience it's the last of all readings to come down. As I said, livers are slow learners.

I wash my hands with soap and test within 5 minutes of getting out of bed. Some members have their test kit by the bed and use a sanitizer then test so they test before even getting out of bed. Maybe an experiment you could do to see if you get a better result?

Although our fasting levels are seen as important by many and they do show how far up the diabetic ladder we have climbed.
They are the one thing we have no control over, we can't stop our liver from doing it's job. I've seen lots of suggestions of ways to fool the liver into not releasing it's glucose, a glass of wine on the evening, a protein snack as soon as you wake, to name just a couple.
The problem is not that our liver takes the opportunity to get rid of some sugar while we sleep.
The real issue is that our liver has too much stored sugar.
So rather than concern ourselves with fasting numbers we can't control, concentrating on something we can influence is more likely to improve things.
reducing carbs as much as you can , keeping any rise after meal's to within 2mmol will reduce how much sugar is stored away to be released when you're not looking. If you can do a little more exercise that will also help with reducing your personal sugar pot.
