soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
Last night, I fell down the stairs. I was going up to bed with too much stuff in my hands.[ I'm going to buy myself a basket that can be held in one hand only] I hit my head on the architrave of my study door. There was a lot of blood, but I'm not seriously hurt. Just gummed up hair and a few bruises. I've proved that regular exercise does protect you in accidents.
My daughter arrived this morning and was a bit shocked and immediately phoned my doctor. What was one of his first questions? "How is the blood sugar?" I'm one of those T2s who can't usually get test strips on prescription. Actually I hadn't checked. I know I haven't injured my head badly, because I have no head injury symptoms. I definitely bruised my lower back. It's getting stiff. I fell backwards down about 1/3 of the length of a standard staircase and through the baby gate at the bottom, but I'm thinking of asking for some test strips from the doctor.

My reply to the doctor's question would have been: "How should I know? - you won't give me any test strips!"

I have tried for some time to get strips and the meter on prescription. Initially refused as I was on Metformin and advised to follow a balanced diet and exercise. Argued until until I was blue in the face, about needing to know what food and amount was affecting my blood sugar was critical to management.

After being unsuccessful in getting control of my blook sugar I was then (recently) given Gliclazide (which is a drug to stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin. This drug carries with it the risk of Hypos and therefore they need to give you test strips and the meter so that you can test if you exhibit the Hypo symptoms. On this drug you win the argument, but they give you the stips and meter not for your scientific testing....more to cover them selves giving you a drug that can induce hypos.

Hi, hanadr.

I hope all goes well for you and those bruises soon sort things out.

I have just herd the latest regarding a doctors new contract with the 75 year olds and over. So in many years to come you might have your own personnel doctor that understands your predicament then they might prescribe test strips for you.
Sorry for being stupid but the current system is driving me up the wall.

best of health,
Roy, :)

I've a while to go to 75,but Iused to have a doctor who knew me for over 30 years. Then he retired. The one we have now is almost as good, so I'm hoping for some strips. I'm supposed to have 2 packs a year, but I haven't even had that since I can't remember. Of course, Ibuy my own, but they don't know that officially.
