test

My practice says 12 hours with only water. Sometimes I go for about 14 hours between my last meal and the test. The only thing that bugs me about it is not being able to have my first cup of coffee

I was told not even water after midnight. Best to ask...

It's a overnight fast so no food from your evening meal onwards, water is fine to drink.

All depends what type of test it is, what it's for ? If it's a fasting test then all night is correct.

What did they tell you when you were told you were having a test......fasting or non-fasting ? What instructions were you given ?

The instructions from my SDSN are to only have water during that time, nothing else if it IS a fasting test.

If it isn't a fasting test then you can usually eat and drink as normal. Always ask.

In general, it is recommended that you fast 8 hours before having a blood glucose test

You don't have to fast for an HbA1c but you do have to for other tests.

Sorry H.
True about the HbA1c.......
However there are other Blood tests which also DON'T require the Patient to fast.

That's the reason why we need to know exactly what test/s the OP is having done. Sometimes it isn't all about Diabetes, although in this case it MAY be. :)
