Testing for Ketones

- Diet drinks - the artificial sweeteners taste vile.
Having to forswear foods I have loved all my life.
Trying to find low carb meals when eating out.
Urine strips are cheaper but less accurate.
Probably worth having some around, though, as an initial check to be backed up by a more expensive blood test.
Also as an contingency if you can't get the ketone blood test strips at any point.

As previous post - suggest getting some test results before you feel ill, especially since you are on low carb.
I am type 1 but when I have tested ketones have been anywhere between about 1 and 6 mmol/l without problems due to low carb etc. (this includes both before I started on insulin and afterwards)
Your results will be different from mine, some people can tolerate higher ketone concentrations without issue and others feel unwell at relatively low ketone concentrations. What you don't want to do is your first test when you feel ill as you will have no idea if the value is normal for you
You don't need lots of testing ... but one or two fasted and a couple after typical meals will help inform your decisions when you are ill.

Good news, the surgery contacted the Glucofix manufacturer and they have posted some ketone testing strips out to me so I have started the SGLT2 and will do a few tests when they arrive.
