Hi carb Foods
I am currently on 2 units lantus per day and my Endocrine/Diabetes specialist wants me to stop and go to gliclazide (T2 diagnosed straight to Insulin) Reccomendations are to test BS before driving. As gliclazide can cause hypos, should I continue testing on tabs. If so, can I push for continuing strips?

Thanks in advance,
Fergus.

People who are touchy.......feign indignation at the slightest thing. Hypocrites, bullies and cowards.
Gliclazide on it's own shouldn't really cause any hypo's unless you are running really low levels (4's) to start with. You should continue to ask for them on prescription until somebody says that you can't have them.

Only then do you need to use 'gentle' persuasion that you are trying to achieve good control and find out what certain foods do to your BG levels. Only by testing will you know what they are.

I know many T2's on oral meds who get the strips.....it is a bit of a lottery though ! You don't ask...you don't get.

Rubbish doctors who dont listen. Unclean hospitals
if your on meds that can cause low bs you should be getting strips I do and I certainly wouldnt even entertain them without it. a few times with all the meds im on if I dont eat enough for breakfast I hit 3.4 a few times and felt sick and shakey only knew cause I kept testing.

Push for them or just point blank refuse to change off insulin. Its your choice remember :)

People that dont understand diabetics and all that goes with having diabetes
Hi,

I am currently on Glicazide 240mg day + 500 SR Metformin, I find generally that bs is fine and no dangers of hypos, just doing my normal everyday things. However thats not to say that I have not had any Hypos since starting on Glicazide.
The one thing that I have found is that if you exercise hard you can go Hypo, I have had drops as much as 5mmol after 30mins hard exercise so what I do now is to eat a banana just before I exercise. this is generally enough to keep me in the safe limits.
The important thing to do is to test before and after to get a hold on what is happening and take things from there.
Hope that this helps.
