It’s been 14 months since my T2 diagnosis. After a steep learning curve I now have an easy low carb diet, I’ve lost 16kg (now 72kg), I’ve settled into my Metformin 2000mg/day and I couldn’t believe my latest HbA1c is 5.0 (31mmol/mol)!
So read up newly diagnosed - you never know what is possible.

Great job! This is excellent news.
Your next mission is to just keep on doing what you're doing: I did really well in my first year, but derailment came so gradually for me that I didn't notice it amid my other health issues and crises. Odds are, you're smarter than me in this regard, but just keep a cautious eye out for complacency.
Good luck and well-done!
