The Diabetes epidemic

And of course, the scare factor may mean that many people who know that they fall in to the risk category will go into denial and NOT get tested.

It takes a fine balance to encourage people to get diagnosed and make lifestyle changes, or become so fearful of the complications (death and amputation stories tend to have that effect !) that they would rather not know:(

I know there are quite a few who have been diagnosed as being type 2, who more or less carry on without making any changes, one person actually told me "I'd rather not think about it, and just enjoy myself ":(

yes I've heard that many times :( so frustrating because you know they will one day be kicking themselves
 
they will fall over if they do that with only one leg left
 
I have now tweeted Mr Maitland and asked him to have a look at the thread on this forum, but only time will tell:rolleyes: Maybe others could do the same, the more the better:)
 
i have a twitter account....... but unless he's following me, which would be quite a surprise :wideyed: i wouldn't have a clue how to tweet him :dummy:

My teenage daughter had to help me:oops:, I put his name in search and then things started from there, but because I hadn't been on there for so long I had to reset my password and scale down the words as well.

Diagnosed prediabetic Easter 2014. Just left to get on with it, no guidance or help from GP. Every day I'm learning something new.
 
Yes, firstly I had to Google and typed in Twitter, then my daughter helped me from there ( as I couldn't remember)o_O

Not so sure I agree, the message in the programme was the earlier it was caught the better the outcome.
 
I am a bit thick at twitter :oops: but if he does find his way over here, I would say

***Mr Maitland!***

The NHS is failing type 2 diabetics by

1 - Telling us to not monitor our blood glucose levels.

2 - Recommending a high carbohydrate diet. We are advised to flood our bodies with glucose by eating "plenty of carbs" with every meal.

By ignoring this official NHS advice and following a low carbohydrate diet, I managed to reduce my hba1c level in 3 months from 63 to 38 (the same as your current level, Mr M) No starvation or faddy diet involved.

If there is a ticking timebomb in this country of serious diabetic complications, it is due to the dangerous advice dished out by the NHS. There's a story for you!

....I've sent one too saying the same as you,...haven't used Twitter for ages, had to go into my deepest depths to try and remember my username and don't know how to log out lol. As he's a reporter hopefully he'll have an open mind and he said his aunt had diabetes, so lets hope he has a look in here..

I'm very happy for this men that "got rid" of t2 and now can eat a rice on "healthy diet"! Too bad they don't mention carbs at all.

Did it look like a meter, with a strip? I "watched" it, on itv.com, but had problem, and could only hear the audio.
 
it was the type they use with the little tube where they suck quite a bit up a tiny tube and it gives an almost instant result, lloyds chemist use them

edit: i wouldnt actually mind having one at home but they prolly cost 10k

Hi Kat, my D said to me 'go to google, type in twitter, if you haven't an account, sign up. Then go to search, upper right I think?, type in, Jonathan Maitland( he comes up as jonny Maitland) then on the left there's a box and you can write your message in the box, but only up to a certain amount of letters.. Under that you click to send and that was it I think. I hope this has been helpful Kat and correct:oops:, I haven't had a 'tweet' yet, but I live in hopeo_O Take care x.

The photo definitely looked like him, or his identical twin brother with the same profession lol If I get a rather irate tweet back from another Mr M I will let you know and then find the real one:cool:
