And of course, the scare factor may mean that many people who know that they fall in to the risk category will go into denial and NOT get tested.
It takes a fine balance to encourage people to get diagnosed and make lifestyle changes, or become so fearful of the complications (death and amputation stories tend to have that effect !) that they would rather not know
I know there are quite a few who have been diagnosed as being type 2, who more or less carry on without making any changes, one person actually told me "I'd rather not think about it, and just enjoy myself "
