Hi all just had a kick up the bum from my nurse and doctor. Warning that if I don't sort myself out they suggest I start injections. I'm type 2 so not insulin. Not been in a good place for a couple of months so let things and myself go. Had bloods done last week HbA1c 82, weight 157kg Bs 16.6. So time to get things sorted!!
Started LCHF diet yesterday (been on it before and did well) Cutting down on alcohol and increasing the walking. I have my diabetes MOT in three months so have been give that time to sort things or else!!
This forum is great for advice and motivation so wish me luck. Will keep you informed of progress.

Hi Terrytiddy, well done on resolving to get back in control. You’ve taken the first step coming here and admitting you need to sort things out. Best of luck!

Good luck mate!

They are some pretty high numbers.. are you going all out as few carbs as possible or are you slowly reducing?

Stock up on eggs and bacon and go for it.
I also skipped breakfast and have coffee with cream instead or tea with lactofree milk (lower carb) seemed to help me a fair bit.

Often struggled to eat breakfast so easy for me. I don't eat between 8.00pm and 12.00 am. Only have water and one mug of black tea in that time. It worked for me last time!

You already have two tools in your box. A glucometer and a dog, the glucometer is an obvious one and your pooch will enjoy any extra walks s/he gets. Job's a goodun!

All too often, the context and the fear for the need for insulin is misplaced.
1) There is nothing wrong with using insulin when it is necessary, eg when we no longer produce enough insulin. It is a life saving treatment.
2) Unfortunately for Type 2 who are insulin resistant, adding more insulin without considering the current level of circulating insulin and insulin levels does not help in the long run.

The injection is not insulin, is a new ish drug for type 2 instead of using Metformin and Glicazade.

A thousand miles journey starts with the first step which you've taken by coming back to the family. Best wishes.

If you need any encouragement you should get it here - I am 18 months from diagnosis and am now a member of the 'Smug Club' having got back to normal numbers on diet alone - there doesn't seem to be an official recognised and accepted title for the situation so I thought that Smug Club would just fit the bill - I look forward to your application to join.

Welcome back Terrytiddy, you will get all the encouragement and inspiration you need here. We are all in it together! Hope you have a good few days to get you back into the swing of things.

Looking forward to reading more about your journey. I know what is like to be kicked in the butt, sounds like you working on sorting it out.
