Didn't realise the DM featured Dr G often..I am surprised they go for the WFPB option... would have thought they were more roast beef of ye olde england...

I was scooting through the whole article thinking what a stunning lack of references...
and then at the end I saw

Which tells you everything - it is basically an advert for the book, which is a promotion of the vegan lifestyle, since Greger is a vocal proponent of veganism, claiming ethical, health and environmental reasons.

Now, if people want to adopt a vegan 'plant based' lifestyle, then that is their choice, but personally, I would like an acknowledgement that carbohydrates affect both blood glucose and insulin levels, and that a 'plant based diet' is full of carbs. At least that way people would have a better understanding of what is being promoted.

Again suits the papers narrative, that is is your own fault for being sloth and gluttonous.

At least it is very low in added sugar and few processed carbs, along with taking the walks, the results will be a LOT better than eating to the standard NHS advice...... (This is mostly a statement about how bad the standard NHS advice is!)

The DM is obsessed with Australian 'nutritionists', so, and with apologies to our Australian members, you could say it's a refreshing change to feature an American rather than photos of sun-kissed blondes with neon-white teeth holding an avocado. Although there is a photo of a brunette holding an avocado.

In fact, a study of tens of thousands of adults in the U.S. and Canada found people who cut out all animal products, including fish, dairy and eggs, appeared to have a 78 per cent reduced risk of diabetes. One key reason could be the fact that plant fats are so much better for the body than animal fats. The key word in this paragraph is appeared.... Tens of thousands? 78% reduced risk? Yes, you'd think with a study of that magnitude which appears to back up his assertions, he'd be citing it everywhere!
 
We must remember that most vegans think about what they eat, and do their own cooking, so I can easily believe their risk of Type2 is lower than a standard person in the USA or the UK. I just don't believe that the reason is that they are not eating meat!

I am not overweight with my 69 kg @64. I’m still diabetic diagnosed just last year after suffering pains and retarding Ill health. I neither drink alcohol nor soda.

...and what are the plant fats? They tell us to eat eggs and drink milk for protein.

I was out shopping today and saw those books in WH Smih - didnt bother to look at them tho cos my first reaction to the title was “ how b****y stupid - evrybody dies! - con artist alert!”.
On the question of wfpb eating - I have some meals that would count as vegan but also have some carnivore ones
