This has to be the most annoying part of being diabetic, I can cope with the injections, restricted diet, lifestyle changes occasional hypo etc etc but the finger pricking and bruises drives me up the wall :-(
You shouldn't be using the pad of your finger, you should use the sides of your fingers by the nail. This should prevent the bruises. You should also have the lancet set at the lowest setting possible.
I am needle phobic so it has been hard for me since I was diagnosed in September. I have learnt a few tips though. As Denise said use the sides of your fingers near the nails, some fingers hurt more than others. Wash your hands in warm water before pricking as this helps blood flow. Stroke rather than press out the blood and if it is reluctant to come hold your hand down as that makes the blood flow towards the fingers. Hope this helps.
I found the ultimate combination to be OneTouch Comfort 33G lancets in a MyLife lancing device with its internal used lancet ejector. I thought the AccuChek Multiclix was excellent until I tried this other combination, and this is the one for me 8)
Urghhhhhh tubbyshaw,
Ooohhhh, yeah thats what I hate about diabetes too. You go to grab something then you get a sharp pain it was one of the reasons why I stopped testing as a teenager. I am no way urging others to stop testing but it's a real pain!
I've been having a few fingerprick issues lately after the top of my finger pricker flew up into the air and landed under the fridge on boxing day. I'm using the same one with a different end and it's been carving gigantic landmines in my fingers so I am off to find myself a decent finger pricker!
Customer helplines that use recorded menus that promise to put me through to the right person but never do - and being ill. Oh, and did I mention customer helplines :)
There is a useful video here on the main site made I believe by Benedict our Admin here at the forum you can find it by clicking on the link below this sentence and scroll down the page a little. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/blood-glucose ... evels.html
It shows exactly how to test blood sugar correctly. Always test on the side of the finger roughly 1 or 2 mm away from the edge of the finger nail, this will stop the finger tips/pads becoming sore as we use that part of the finger tip all the time whenever we touch anything
I have tried a variety of lancets including a few shown below and the best IMHO is the Accu-Chec Multiclix which i find both convenient and the least painful lancet I have tried.
The Multiclix is the one shown on the bottom of the picture. Sorry for the blurred image
