Where does the BG limit of 110 come from ?

Was it plucked out of thin air like the 21 units per day alcohol and the 5 a day vegetable figures ?

I've been given Eucreas because my figure is 139 instead of 110. Shouldn't I feel ill or something -like bits dropping off- before I take drugs like eucreas that can cause more harm and unpleasantness than most if not all drugs I've read about ?

I've just read that in the USA the drug companies work on the basis they can make 10,000 dollars PER YEAR from every person diagnosed with diabetes. They seem to be salivating over the millions who could or should be diagnosed if the doctors did their jobs better ( on behalf of the drug companies I suppose they mean ). Second biggest earner after asthma. Sick.

Hi. I assume you are using USA units (mg/dl) and talking about fasting readings not HBa1C? . This figure, which equates to 6.1mmol for fasting blood test in the UK, is within a 'good' range. The number for either fasting or HBa1C can never be an absolute as people vary in their natural non-diabetic sugars. The health experts in the UK and USA set limits to be within a range where any damage is expected to be low or none. Going above these limits is likely to gradually increase the risk of capillary damage. No one really knows the rate of increase in damage as limits are exceeded.

Statistical analysis of studies like the DCCT. Whilst pharmaceutical companies will obviously try to demonstrate that the widest possible demographic benefit from their drugs the fact remains that the drug has been shown to help people like you if it is to be prescribed to you.

That's a rather naive view of the world - simply put, elevated BG increases the risk of several unpleasant medical conditions (CVD, diabetic foot, retinopathy and so on): That means that whilst some people with bad BG control get lucky, a lot more people in the bad BG group will develop these problems compared to the good BG group.

All of the above are irreversible so it would be foolish in the extreme to wait until after you have (literally) lost a limb before taking medication.

However, I'll say that Eucreas looks like a tweaked Metformin to avoid losing revenue to generic drugs, which I agree is an abuse of the system.
