EU funded research from the University of Ireland into beta cell capsules which last 5 years and replicate normal blood sugar management and insulin release...Hoping it doesn't follow the 'IF it sounds too good to be true' rule.

Very interesting, but, there is always a but, is it really to good to be true ? I did like the wording :

Fascinating, and hopeful, but
needs (reduced?) immunosuppressants
just how many pancreases are available for harvesting
and finally
it's an EU project, so not sure whether UK involvement will continue after BREXIT....

I'm not holding my breath but I do hope that this will benefit younger T1s.

I would hope that an international medical business would commercialise this so I'd be more concerned at the time it would take to become a treatment offered on the NHS given that it is likely to be an expensive procedure. Yet another reason to make sure that organ harvesting is a moral obligation (currently relatives can opt your body out even if you consented to it).
Not that anyone wants my rusty old type 1 organs anyway! Possibly of interest for medical science purposes.
