My doc won't prescribe metformin anymore, but I wish he would as it has many protective qualities, protection against some cancers for example. I suspect doctors (like mine) are taking people off drugs to save the NHS money in the short term. That's a daft short-sighted view in my opinion.
Could it be anything to do with the need to restrict metformin for scans ? The same applies for walk-in patients, undergoing a scan.you are all taking drugs when you shouldn't be

It's also an appetite suppressant and helps in the fight against IR. Those two things were much more important to me than the effects on BG which were minimal.A few facts about Metformin based on so many people taking it over many years and the many posts. First it's effects are minimal but not zero. It's not the magical tablet some GPs believe it is but it helps a bit. For most people it has very little downside and it's very safe. It does cause bowel upset for some and that's when the SR version can help a lot. The plain version is very low cost but the SR version costs a bit more. For most, a Low-carb diet will be lot more effective and exercise helps as well. I guess there are many taking it unnecessarily (like me but it keeps my DN happy) so there is accost saving by stopping it. I'd like to know why the hospital were stopping it though.
