I do not have diabetes
Hi there,

I'm on a healthy kick and cutting white rice out of my diet and switching to brown / wholegrain and as you may know brown rice takes around 25 minutes to cook...

Tilda have these rice pouches to save time that have been pre-cooked by steaming them to 121C so basically sterilises the rice. My question is will this kill off all the goodness and nutritional value?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

Way too high in carbs per 100g to fit into my low carb diet.

@mrmarkymark , Both of these products are too high in carbohydrates to be healthy for me.

Mark your profile says you don't have diabetes, is this right as you might want to amend it if you do.

I would guess that the nutritional value of the brown rice is not too badly affected by the steaming process.
My concern would be with portion size. A very small helping of brown rice doesn't spike me. The Tilda packets are quite large - too large for 2 of us and I would end up overeating it (as I used to love rice). I also found the microwave rice to be overcooked (back in the day).
best wishes,
Adam

I have type 2 diabeties and i use ti eat white basmati rice almost every day and it does not spike my bg level . I reduced my Hab1c up to 34 from 48. White basmati rice are much better then brown rice it was advised in health managment with diabeties program just keep an eye on portion size
