Type 2
Hi all. I was diagnosed with type 2, 4 months ago. From the uk but living in Indonesia at the moment. 40 years old. not over weight.
my diagnosis A1C was 10.6 my last one 3 weeks ago I brought it down to 5.7.
My question is this around 5 days ago i started noticing intermitmet at first pins and needles in my right foot. which i put down to the fact tat while home at Christmas i was out running on the roads (which i dont normally do) with a new pair of trainer which may have been to tight. however i did get a reflexology foot massage done a few days later. my feet are now tingling and numb and sore all at the same time on i have pins and needles in both my little fingers.

my question is this could this be peripheral neuropathy? I would not have expected this to have happened only 4 months after diagnosis also particularly considering my bs is only 5.7 at the moment. please help with any advice as its extremly hard to find a competent doctor who speaks English here

Hi @Gavin0305

You write "only 4 months" but was your blood sugar high for a long period before diagnosis?

Are you giving us your a1c as a percentage? (eg 10.6%).

Are you checking your own BG numbers after meals ?

If you've been that high for a while it could have done some damage, but equally it's not impossible that the damage can be repaired with tight control of BG numbers.

Your symptoms are consistent with peripheral neuropathy but there could be other reasons for it. Would normally suggest you see a doc but I guess that's not an option for you right now.

I can't offer much advice as I was only diagnosed in September , but I have neuropathy , because I've been diabetic for a good few years ( according to the doctor ) . It's good to read though that it can be repaired

Hi Guys. Yes my first a1c was 10.6 I have no idea how long it was high for before that. I check my blood sugar in the mornings and before and after each meal at one and two hours. It's very very rare for it to be above 120. I'm curious though why would symptoms start 2 months after blood sugar feel into normal range and stayed there

Hi. I had a lot of tingling before and shortly after my diagnosis 10 years ago no doubt due to my diabetes being un-detected. Over the years with good treatment and diet I no longer have tingling so with a bit of luck yours will gradually fade?
