Hi

Can anyone please explain the tiredness symptoms linked to T2?
I seem to be shattered most of the time, heavy eyes and thick head?
I can have lots of sleep or very little and still feel the same?
Diet is going ok and losing weight at a steady rate, do I need to look at changing my diet?
Also I feel far too tired to exercise, will exercise help?
But the strange thing is I seem to be having trouble with my words?? when i talk every now and then i seem to say things wrong?? its hard to explain but i keep thinking ..that word did not sound correct?! as if I am too tired /lazy to get my words out!?
Doc has not put me on Meds for T2 but has put me on a BP tablet as my B pressure has been up for some time now. Is all linked?
Any suggestions please.

Tiredness is a symptom of Vitamin D deficiency, doctors don't regularly test for it. If you stay indoors a lot then it is a possibility. It also seems to be implicated in the development of diabetes (google vitamin D and diabetes).

I had the symptoms you mention, but since being treated for Vitamin D deficiency I am nearly back to normal and my bs levels are much lower.

I take Calichew D3 Forte twice a day prescribed by my doctor. I also use a 1000iu Vitamin D oral spray twice a day. I try and get out in the sunshine too but the british weather is a bit against me there ....

I would see if you can get tested to see if this is the problem. I think the test is expensive and that's why its not done very frequently. Another deficiency that causes tiredness is Vitamin B12.

Hi

I was tired before the BP tablet? with the heavy heady feelings? Doc reckons if I up the exercise and correct the diet? 16 stone at moment 5'10
If I am too heavy I have been told the insulin i produce is not working due to my size and body fat therefore I feel ill most of the time?? is this correct?

Hi Dazzy,

Losing 10% of your body weight will make a difference. Do you have mobility problems or other health issues that restrict your movement?

Is there anything diet wise that you need help with? What are your blood sugars like?

Please ask as many questions as you need to.

Hi

I am actually quite fit in a way..i practice Aikido and teach it, yes i am over weight.
I did have a bad diet but now i have improved it over the past 2 months, I need more exercise for sure.
I work long hours indoors on a pc, 10-12 hours per day
Doc told me to diet and exercise? I do not test for anything.
Are my symtoms common? feeling light, heavy headed, lethargic, heady, dizzy and off balance?
I have been up and down now for over 8 months, only diagnosed 2 months ago, I remember feeling great 8 months ago then bang! one week of stress and anxiety..down hill ever since until I had a BP check that resulted in a BG test..T2..?
D :(

Hi Dazzy,

If you are not testing your blood sugars then all of your symptoms could be down to high blood sugars.

The advice for newly diagnosed diabetics may help you.

You really do need a meter and test strips as you have no idea if your diet is working. It is like trying to drive a car without a steering wheel.

Before I gave up my high carb diet and got my BG under control, I was tired all the time. One of the first things that my husband noticed was that I was no longer falling asleep every afternoon.

But it really is difficult to tell what is going on, if you are not testing the effects of foods on your body, as you are an individual and everything can effect you differently to the way it does other people .

Hi dazzy

Golly a good low carb diet -that's a tricky one because it is about as individual as we are... Sorry to be so vague but everybody has their own idea and of how many carbs to eat daily.

I call myself a reduced carber really, not a low carber, as I don't actually count carbs but I do control how many I eat..I don't eat the main starchy carbs bread/pasta/rice/potatoes. ALthough I know from testing taht I can get away with some potatos more then the others.

All vegetable have carbs to a greater or lesser extent, those that are higher like carrots and the pulses I eat, but not in vast quantites, other vegetables I don't restrict at all.

I basically eat the main part of a meal with lots of vegetable or salad, for instance if I had a chile then I would just eat the chile, but no rice with it.

I have eggs or something like that for breakfast, soup with cheese for lunch or a salad, and the main meal without the carbs in the evening.

Have a good read of the low carb section of this forum it is full of ideas and even a recipe thread.

I would back up Catherine here

If you could test yourself when you are experiencing the tiredness, you could see whether it is high blood sugar.

When i was trying to eat the 40% per meal carbs that Ihad been advised to by my HCP, I was tired blurred vision, generally muzzy I suppose would be a good way to describe it.

Some people have said if they go off the carb wagon for a day then next morning they feel like they have a hangover..

I only know that without the carb's I have higher energy levels, than when I indulge (and I still do sometimes for special occasions)

I tend to feel lousy and lethargic on some mornings when i wake up even though my morning readings are between 5 and 6.5 most of the time.

Hi Dazzy

i really know where you are coming from, i have felt tired foggy headed , getting my words wrong etc...that was 1 of the reasons i went to see my GP in the 1st place....had a few blood tests done, came back very anemic for which i now take iron tablets, not really helping much at the moment, but the GP said my sugars was high too....so went on to have more tests...which came back telling me i have diabetes type 2, no meds at the moment..diet only,
i was told that the anemia along with the diabetes can make me feel as above..

i have since lost 9lbs, another 5 to go

but i still feel rough most days..sometimes it wears off as the day goes on,
i am low carbing the best i can , and i gather my body is kicking back at the diet change,
i just hope i start to feel better soon!!

Bless you roxy, you're honestly doing so well and should be proud of wat you have achieved since being diagnosed too. Have read some of your threads and so get n understand what you feel like, yes - it can n does leave you feeling foggy n muggy headed plus mumbo jumbo memory n speech too. I am the same also, the effort to always try n do the right things is a strain alone n such a balancing act daily Keep plodding on n keep testing those BS n stay in touch we are here for you. Worthwhile mentioning the tiredness aspect to GP's/HCP's as well though, because as well as your body adjusting to new regimes/diets etc....there are also a lot of other medical reasons that can cause extreme fatigue-i.e anaemia-whether B12 or iron, lack of vit D, fibromyalgia. If googled, there are a lot of other things that can cause extreme tiredness as well as our bodies coping with the changes that we are making with different diets, exercises etc. Always worthwhile to get it double checked with GP's that can arrange for blood tests if they think it is not related to the changeovers that your body has been having......
