Could someone answer this little problem:am on medication of Warfarin (2xTIAs) Simvastatin-Atenolol(AF)-Metformin & Gliclazide. My BM is between 7.5 and 9.5.I exercise 3-4 times a week, watch my diet, dont smoke and drink very little alcohol but the diabetic nurse is insisting I get BM down to 5 or 6.I have tried but to no avail. It has now got me wondering if all the other medication I am taking is having an adverse affect on my diabetic readings.Does anyone else have this problem.

@KIPGIB , when you say that you "watch your diet", what do you mean, what do you eat on a typical day? Diet is at the root of T2 diabetes and get that right and many other things will follow. Exercise, of course, is good for you, but it's not the ultimate life changer, more the icing (if fellow low carbers will forgive me) on the cake.

Hi kipgib,
I have been on some of the meds you are on.
My diabetes is diet controlled hba1c now 44 was 50 when diagnosed and have lost three stone by gradually dropping carbs. If I were you I would go lchf if you have not already done so.

Regarding meds been on and off warfarin for three years also on and off statins. They are both vitamin k antagonists and I personal think they make blood glucose worse but its only an opinion.
There are recent studies that show they both cause arteriel calcification!

I had to take 12mg of warfarin eventually and my inr was still below 2.
I am now on 20mg of Rivaroxaban.
Simvastatin is not the best for me I found a mere 5mg of atorvastatin got my chloresterol down.
I have slow Afib and my heart paused repeatedly overnight up c.4secs. I now have a pacemaker and never felt as good for years.

Been on atenolol years ago..not a nice drug one does not feel part of this world.:)
Have they tried stopping and starting your heart to get you out of afib?
Hope my comments help .
regards
Derek

Hi Sally & James, most days eat high protein foods and very small amount of carbs ie (at most)2 slices wholemeal bread.Eggs-lean meat (not processed)brown rice and the occasional home made chips cooked in the oven.Have reduced the portion size of my meals but always feel hungry.Fasting BM is usually 6.5-8.0.

Hi Derek, many thanks for reply.I still think the combination of meds does have the effect on my BM as I am on a lchf diet.Original HbA1c (5years ago) was 7.7 and now is 8.5.Have lost 2st in weight.Dont fancy the stop/start procedure for my AF.Regards Chris.

Hi Chris,
I had my pacemaker done at the Freeman, it is pretty good hospital, perhaps you are not that far north.
I am hoping my Hba1c comes down with med changes I'll let you know if it drops next time.
