I'm after making a massive boo boo. I took 17 units of novarapid instead of levemir because I was half asleep doing it. As soon as I had taken it I realised what I done. I panicked and ate a twix bar and drank half a bottle of lucozade! What should I do? Scared!!

Firstly don't panic. You've had a reasonable amount of carbs to start with. What you need to do now I'm afraid just to be on the safe side is to check you're blood sugars regularly for the next 3 to 4 hrs at around 30min intervals to find out which direction they're heading in. The Novorapid can last up to around 5hrs so after that you should be on a more level playing field. Just try not to overcompensate too much if you need to take on more carbs during this time. And finally just to say that many of us have done exactly the same thing, so you are not alone in that.

thanks!I took your advice and didn't eat anymore after the twix and lucozaden. At the moment it's up at 10 so I expect it to drop. Have also checked it at half hour intervals since I made the mistake. Thank you for replying!

No problem. It's easily done and just as well you realised. Take care

@wannabemammy . Hope you've got through the night without to much stress.
Easily done mixing insulin up, done it myself.
One thing to consider if it should happen again is that chocolate and lucozade are one option but will give a big spike when what you really need is something for the following 5/6 hrs. It may be worth considering something like brown bread, porridge oats.
Have a nice day.

@therower thanks for advising me on slower releasing carbs! You are dead right that is exactly what happened! I spiked! Didn't get a great amount of sleep last night but usually if I make a serious mistake of any form I learn from it and don't do it again! So I have kept my pens separate.
@Juicyj thank you I am fine!

It's good to have here to turn to when you are in a state of panic! Thanks again all!!!

I did that once a few years ago and rang 111, they were very helpful and checked up on me at 4 am, I keep my pens separate, but picked up the wrong one
I am pleased you are okay and it's a lesson a lot of us learn, take care RRB :)

We've all done this. It's horrid, but thank goodness you got thru the night okay.
