hi

does anyone know if this reading means total cholesterol please?

Serum cholesterol/ HDL ratio = 4.3 ratio

i keep reading about total cholesterol but my results dont say total and i wondered if this was it?

thanks

No, that is the ratio of total cholesterol to hdl cholesterol. Just ask your doctor for the detailed figures. They have to give it to you if you ask, its your information.

thanks :( i just wanted to know if my cholesterol had gone down, i have a printout of all my results but nothing says total cholesterol and everything i read on the internet keep talking about total cholesterol so i cant compare

thankyou, my serum cholesterol is 5.2 i think, ive taken my statins tonight and im going to take my lisipondril in the morning and stop thinking im clever enough to cure myself

That serum cholesterol of 5.2 is your total cholesterol level.

My GP would be perfectly happy with that, as he focuses on the more important Total:HDL ratio. This should be below 5:1, and preferably below 3.5:1. So your 4.2 is good (= 4.2:1).

Your triglyceride level is also very important. This should be 1.7 or below, and the lower the better. My lowest-ever was 0.65 when eating less than 30g carbohydrate a day for about 18 months.

I always get a full print-out of my results every time I have blood tests. It took a little while to get the receptionists trained, but now I get them without a murmur!
