Total daily insulin

I have the exact same pump you are getting and like you had no choice..........:)....

you will be started off on a flat basal rate and then you want to get the overnight rates sorted first............the good thing is this can be established pretty quickly, will only take a couple of days to get the rates sorted overnight, which will then set you off with good numbers for the daytime basal testing......

good luck........

Basal rate adjustment takes a bit more than a few nights.......as its important to go to bed on a good bg level before the basal testing starts so lots of trial and error...

This is a rough guide to adjusting the basals http://diatribe.org/issues/26/thinking-like-a-pancreas Look at the table on the page but remember to not get confused over 0.01 and 0.10. An adjustment of 0.01 will do very little whereas 0.10 will do more

I know the first few nights will be the hardest
i tend to worry when i have any big changes like a new insulin so the pump is going to be a big worry.
ive lived a lone for many years so there's no one to keep an eye on me if anythings go wrong.
fingers crossed

If you live alone, then dont try to control bg levels too tightly overnight. Everything will come good in time but dont rush to jump in at the deep end.....stay in the shallow end for a while and get used to infusion set insertion and keep to standard bolus for a bit and not multi waves etc.
Just make sure that your GP prescribes enough teststrips......rough guide will be 250-300 strips per month as you will need to find your way with the carb ratio for the bolus and basal rates. Don't panic though.......a pump is only an insulin delivering device, its not a working pancreas gland.

i think i will be OK with test stripes i only order what i want when i need it there's never been any problems.
my chemist is very good..i get 200 a month but if a'm getting low .i'll get a top up
i do test a lot.
when i was on lantus i was hypoing during night but now i'm using levemir x2 a day i don't hypo but high in the morning
and always chasing. to correct.come dinner down to 6 or 7 all the way from the morning 15
come 8 pm the levemir not working it only last about 8 to 10 hours. and the BG starts to rise again.

I think my carb usage went down slightly, by possibly 10% overall, so you might find that's the case with you. On a completely different subject, I recently reduced my insulin ratios (less insulin per carb) along with my basal rate when I lost some weight to become my 'optimum' weight if there is such a thing. I also eat less because I'm using less energy :)
