I was diagnosed type 2 about 5 years ago. Im on 4 Gliclazide,4 Metformin and 1 Sitagliptin.
I have 2 Glic, 2 Metfo and the Sitagliptin in the morning with my sandwich and the other 4 tablets after my T at night. I have noticed that my BS is very high in the morning (12 - 15) which is making me very tired all day.My BS is lower when i test at night (9 - 10) which i find is quite normal for me. Should i be taking all of my medication all at once in the morning or spread it out over the day????

Im diabetic due to gall stones which gave me pancriatitis so i know i will probably end up type 1!!

Please help!!!

Many Thanks

I would definitely divide the metformin dose. Two in the morning and two at night. Works beter that way I understand. Presumably they are 500 mg tablets? You may find it more convenient to
change to 2x 1g tabllets.

I always take my sitagliptin at ight which reduces my levels hen and seems to have stopped the dawn phenomenon effect for me too.

I dont know about glic but I used to take glimepiride and I was told to dspread it out during the day.
Were you advised to rtake all your medication at ince? When I saw the consultant last year he old me to do that and when i asked why he said i was just for convenience! Obviously the medication effects will start to wear off during the day so you may want to experiment a little to see what is best for you.

I know some people will be horrified as they believe you must only take the pills as directed but
I had a very diffficult time for the first three years after I was diagnosed wih my medication.
At that time I had a very helpful and honest Gp who told me that I should try to find the bet time for ME to take my medicaion. Everyone;s lifestyle is diffferent and we have to fid he best way for ourselves. I have also been told o try different times of day when I have had side effects.
I reallly dont thik this is harmful so long as you read he insrucions o tthe timn regarding taking certain medications before food etc.

I think the daftest advice was aking metformin at night on an empty stomach diabetes nurse of course. Don't try that one ayt home folks. still I suppose it might have worked for someone.

I expect you eed o take the glic wit meals ad of course the metformin but the suitaglyptin can be taken any time . If you tend to spike i the mornings the maybe that is the bes time for you.

Maybe just change one thing at a time. start with the metformin. I am sure it works better that way at your dosage.

Good luck with it. You could then perhaps se e if taking the sitadliptin at nigh lowers your morning levels.{and that will mean they have probably been lower all ight}..
Good luck!

Hi

I read a professional article recently which said that for Met SR splitting the dose am/pm or taking it all am made very little difference. I can't comment on straight Met. I believe Glic doses should be split as it has a relatively short active life (10 hours?) and therefore needs to be associated with meals. My prescription splits the Glic. I've read many articles on Sitagliptin including those from the manufacturer and nore suggest, surprisingly, that you take the single 100gm dose at any particular time of day.

Just a small thing, but I noticed you said you took youir morning meds "with your sandwich" - is that your breakfast? I wondered what the rest of your diet was like? Your BGs seem to be generally high, and i wonder if you could bring them down a bit and stop those morning peaks by reducing your carb intake a bit. Not many on this forum could handle a sandwich for breakfast!
