Is there anybody in the West Sussex area who is training for any events or just for fun? Looking for a partner who understands the possible issues of diabetes whilst exercising

Hey there, have you tried linking up through Juvenile Diabetes ? They organise lots of event around the country so it's worth seeing if there's anything coming up in your area, also for info runsweet.com is a useful website for exercise and type 1 ;)

Is there a parkrun near you? Lots of people with diabetes take part - free timed 5km runs at 0900 each Saturday morning. Once you start going , you may spot other people with diabetes kit or you can ask around. The core volunteer team may know. Personally, I don't tell anyone at parkrun about my type 1 diabetes, as I don't need to, but I carry a small bumbag containing my bar code (vital to get a time published), packet of sweets and blood glucose meter. So, until you find a real life buddy, you could join a virtual group of parkrunners with diabetes - see thread here. http://www.parkrun.org.uk/events/events/ Click on South East England to centre the map on your part of the world.
Once, through running / orienteering friends who told another orienteer that I had T1D, the young man approached me at registration for an orienteering races, checked my name, then lifted up his shirt to reveal an insulin pump stuck to his back. He takes part in parkruns, and since I left East Anglia, we only see each other once a year at a mountain marathon where I volunteer and he competes.

What are you training for? Happy to give some pointers if I have the relevant experience - 30 years + weight lifting, body building (clean) strength training. One Highland Games in Scotland, rugby: club level, swimming/waterpolo: club level. Currently training for strong man competitions and silly events such as World Welly Throwing Competition - (Somerset/September). Oh yes - and runner up in the inaugural World Dive Bombing Championships - I didn't realise there were points for fancy dress!.
T2, Oct 15. diet, exercise and metformin. Everytime, literally, every time I go into the gym, I increase distance, weight, reps, intensity - I measure everything and just do more the next time. Biology graduate - I haven't stopped learning. 51 in May. My strength stats will look like I'm showing off, but numbers are not important, results are.(North East Surrey - so close to W Sussex.)
