Training

After reading all the blurb about low carb diets I have been dramatically reduced my intake and found to my surprise, my training has improved no end. I train 5 times a week quite intensively and often had what I thought were Hypnos so tended to bulk up on carbs before training.

This seemed to have the opposite affect with what I thought were hynpos coming on. I also experienced bloatedness during training which felt like air trapped in my chest. Even went to the docs about that as it really was affecting my training. He perscribed omeprazone once a day which had little impact.

Since reading the forum on low carbo and drastically reducing my intake of wholemeal bread , pasta, potatos, and rice. Not only has this feeling of bloated trapped air disappeared Im not having the feeling of Hypos during or after training.

Normally I train late afternoon so well after my lunch when my blood sugars have dropped to be low 7. Yesterday I had to train early almost immediately after food and I found the same bloatedness problems reoccurring. Now the question is do you think my higher BS was the cause of all the problems I described when I was bulking out on carbs before training.
I'm still working on my low carb diet and have found that my normal breakfast of oat porrage even cut back dramatically still sends my BS up to 11 after 2 hours so I really need to find an alternative.

Hi Barry

The accepted belief that porridge is so good gets turned on its head for many of us diabetics. It sends my levels sky high so I avoid it completely. I have tested after trying many foods and I have come to the conclusion that I cannot have any grains ie no bread, cracker, crisp breads etc no pasta, rice or potatoes as they all, without exception, shoot my bg levels to the skies. My weight is coming down, my levels have steadied and I feel so much better. I get my carbs from fruit and veg alone.
This might work for you but only you can tell by eating and testing.

As I put on the other post in 'greetings' please tell us what you are eating.

Many of us have found the same. Execise gets easier on low carb.
As for breakfast
How about eggs, or bacon or eggs AND bacon, or cheese, or salami, or German breakfast without any bread?

Ps Scramled eggs in the microwave take as little time to do as to write out these instructions( for a dodgy typist)
2 eggs, break into pyrex bowl, break up with fork. Microwave full power 30 seconds. Add generous knob of butter and whisk. Microwave a further 45 seconds, remove from microwave and whisk until desired "doneness", using residual heat.
Season and EAT.

Actual time depends on individual microwave. Test it.

The thought of no carbs is truly scary but I am beginning to think that is the only route as not getting my BS under control is far scarier. Thanks for all your very helpful advice will keep cutting back on the carbs till the BS is contolled.

Having said all that the thought of having a cooked breakfast more frequently is sounding all the better, purely medicinal of course.
