Hi, I'm 49 and suddenly became type 1diabetic out of nowhere in April. Next month I'm flying to New Zealand over about 30 hours and I bought some flight socks to protect myself from DVT, but it says check the your GP if diabetic. Isn't this over kill? I don't have any issues with my feet yet. Do I really need to bother my GP with this?

The sock company are covering their ar backside, by putting the check with your GP if you are diabetic on the label / packet.

It's up to you whether you check with your GP though, I know what I would do if was going to wear them.

I already wear Jobst compression stockings on my legs, so no need for travel socks though.

Hi. I wouldn't worry. You will find everywhere notices about the risk of doing something as a diabetic - even breathing! If you are well controlled most of these things are best ignored. Havea good trip with the socks if you need them to avoid a DVT.
