Travelling with diabetes

How do folk go about long trips and trips abroad? Do you limit the time away to the amount of insulin, metformin you are allowed to have?
Do you arrange to get meds abroad... how?

I'm a new type 1 and like to ride my motorbike to strange remote places, not sure how to organise the meds though.
Any advice, experience?

Treat yourself to a frio coolbag. Makes travel much easier. There are various sizes to keep your insulin cool really easy. Apart from that, I just ensure I take plenty with me. Spare everything lol, including meter.

Not sure about altitude but heat and humidity can make you more liable to hypo so possibly look at reducing units. This is always a personal thing though and the best advice is to test often and eat/inject accordingly.

I spoke to my diabetic team about this when I went to Oz. I was going for 4 months and the lady said they are only allowed to give a maximum of [cant really remember, think it was 3] months worth of stuff. She then very kindly gave me a big pad and told me to go work out what I needed in "three months" so I put as much as i needed for the 4 months, plus a bit extra and no one queried it! I didn't have to order spare needles for about a year!!! ;) they were very good about it.
