I'm still concerned about my Trig levels. I'm lo carbing, so they are going down (slowly but surely) - but it's the insistance of GPs that Trig levels are directly linked to Alcohol intake. I only drink on a weekend - could this be contributing to my Trig levels???

Hi Patch,
It looks like your one of the unlucky sensitive ones; I don’t have any problems as my last trigs on LC are 0.65 mmol/L.

Excessive alcohol consumption is strongly associated with dangerously high triglyceride
levels. For those individuals who are sensitive, even a small amount of alcohol can
trigger elevated triglycerides.

My Trigycerides were 2.1 when i was diagnosed T2 in April, and now three months later they are 0.8. With the long summer evenings I'm probably drinking more (mainly wine, the occasional G&T and the occasional Guinness) than I did when I had my first test. Alcohol might be a reason for raised Trig levels but the wrong type of carbs and fats are probably just as significant.

Hi patch.

Here is a link which is specifically about Triglycerides and Alcohol. It's an interesting read.

As with every thing, the moderate approach is best.

Hi Patch,
My trigs are 0.3 and I have a small glass of wine most evenings and if we go out about once a fortnight on average I will drink more, sometimes considerably more  but then have a few days drinking nothing.
Before I started low carbing my trigs were 0.6 or 0.7 I think.
Hope this helps
Jo

Patch,

on dx in April, my trigs were 7.7!!!.
For the last year or so pre-dx, I was only drinking on a Saturday night (5 or 6 pints of lager). I would also have the occasional can or so or an odd malt whisky (a crate of lager or a bottle of malt could sit around for weeks on end, so nothing significant)
I was advised that my high trigs were due to high BG. I was 10.3 HBA1C on dx and fasting BG was 13.
I had tests on 30th June for gout review and my trigs had dropped to 1.1 !!.
Never eaten so much fat in my life!!
As stated previously, I have my 3 month review on Thursday and cant wait to wipe the floor with my pessimistic GP!!.

Steve.
