Hi folks,
Last week I got tested my blood again twice, results are very consistent.
triglycerides are at 180 [rane: 40-160], total cholesterol: 230, hdl 58, ldl 135, vldl 36 [range: 10-30]. Lab tech told me that I might get heart problem later in the life. however, my lipids were fine when my employer got us tested a month ago, I am now giving the comparison between the two tests.

Total cholesterol: 147.23 mg/dl; Triglycerides 82.76; LDL-C 92.07; HDL-C 55.19 [last month]
Total cholesterol: 230 mg/dl; Triglycerides 180; LDL-C 135; HDL-C 58 [last week]

I cannot understand these readings :(. Earlier I thought I was fine as far as my cholesterol is concerned. But let me explain. I am travelling and now in a different place, staying in a hotel. Naturally I went on binging especially on mango and pinanpple fruits; downed a good amount of red- -wine - free/ complimentary :p. Eating lots of rice. But not sure if this little binging will push the readings up so badly?

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
Are you taking any different meds since reading month ago?

Are you under more stress?

If your diet has significantly changed then this could be the reason.

Alcohol can have quite dramatic effects on triglycerides, so most people suggest not drinking for a few days before having a lipids test.

Were both your cholesterol tests fasting tests?

Someone posted on this site (sorry, I cannot remember who, or when) that they had a cholesterol test done just after a 2 week binge drinking holiday. If I recall correctly, their doc nearly had a heart attack at the high Triglyceride result.

The person was called in for another test only a few days later, and tested perfectly normal. I think the nurse thought the whole thing was hilarious, because the doc should have known better.

Can anyone else remember that post? I've had a quick search but I can't find it.

Lots of rice or lots of most types of carbs will raise triglycerides and total cholesterol.

Are you taking any different meds since reading month ago? - NO

Are you under more stress? - NO

If your diet has significantly changed then this could be the reason. - YES, was eating too many carbs and drinking red-wine.

It is good to know that trigl'des go up if I down red-wine and rice. Now I stopped taking red-wine completely. Limiting rice too. I might get another test during early August.

Hi How are you? miss your posts for long time. I remember you insisting on less carb diet, but somewhere along the lines I fall off the track. When I see complimentary wine on the plane, I never like to displease the professional [read beautiful] air-hostesses. At the hotel counter, fruit basket, steaming white rice, bread/cheese etc, I cannot stop myself. Let it be weakness or indiscipline, at the end body prevails over the brain and this is the result. May be that some groups of cells inside are just waiting for a bad diet so that they can push the cholesterol up. May be it is their duty as the system is programmed based on the genes?

Whatever, I am trying to get back now. Lessons learnt. No wine, less carbs for me:arghh:

not sure about others but when I had the same feeling. I read online about the ranges and effects on human bodies; I completely got discouraged and felt sad.

Well, bodies do not lie.

Yes, I have to agree. One thing definitely happens for sure - drinking pushes cholesterol high. This means even if we do this once in a week, we are 'training the guns inside our body against ourselves' once in a week.:banghead:

I'm doing well, thanks. Once you have cut the carbs to a minimal level for a week or two you lose the cravings for it. Red wine is fine.
