I had trouble with my knees in the beginning, Didie, particularly the right one which has had an arthroscopy. I pedal very gently with no tension on at all, and they've gradually got easier. I discovered that when I had the seat low enough to get on and off unaided, the distance to the pedals was too short and I was having to bend my knees up too much. When I heightened the seat, my legs were longer and my knees didn't have to bend so much, which made things easier - though I need my mounting block to get on!
Do you see a physiotherapist at all? I got some exercises from the one the practise uses, and the one at the Spinal Rehab Unit was the one who told me to use the exercise bike. If you don't see one, I'd ask to be referred. They do say that you have to use your joints to keep them supple - the less you do, the less you can do, as I know to my cost
 . In your place I'd certainly ask for some advice before pushing yourself too much on the exercise bike, but I'd also prefer to be advised by a good physio rather than a GP.
It is sad when a much-loved pet has to be destroyed. I had to re-home my last Wolfhounds because my joyous big boy got in to play with the sheep - no harm done, but he enjoyed it so much that he'd only have done it again and got himself shot. He had to go, and his companion with him, and I still cry about it! People, or in my case terrified sheep and the farmers' livelihood, have to come first. That little Westie could never have been trusted again - imagine if he'd attacked another child? The main thing is, that Heather is okay - I trust?
